While the season looked very different this year, we are so happy to have still been able to harvest some garlic. There was an abundance, so we were excited to supply Acadia Dining Services with bulbs that will be used once RA's and students start returning to campus. The leftover garlic will be donated to the ASU Food Cupboard when they reopen and the Wolfville Area Food Bank! Due to COVID-19, the Food Bank has adapted and now makes deliveries to their families instead of ha...ving drop-ins. The garlic was included in the Food Bank delivery today along with the care tags we created which describe storage tips and recommendations on how to cook with garlic! Did you know, you can crush, roast, boil, sauté, or eat garlic raw? Garlic is a lovely addition to many meals and has quite a few health benefits like boosting immunity and acting as an anti-inflammatory. It may be smelly but it is oh-so-good! How do you enjoy your garlic?

The Acadia Community Farm is pleased to announce that we have a new website that is now part of the Acadia University website. After 10+ years maintaining the original farm blog here on WordPress we thought it was time to refresh our online presence with a new look. Also, we now spend more time posting on social media these days rather than blogging so decided to focus more on this work. The farm has an abundance of mint, so we wanted to share the wealth and freshen up the day for the students who stayed living on campus this summer. We provided a small batch of spearmint along with a care card for how to dry it and later turn it into sun tea, yum! Thank you to Acadia Residence Life, and the Residence Life Summer Assistant/ SRA Joe for helping us with this project and delivering the mint. Do you have mint and are wondering how to use it? Follow these easy ins...tructions for drying and storage and how to make a delicious sun tea: Care tips: To dry, turn mint upside down in the bunch and hang in a warm, dry place. When dry, store in a cool dry place. The mint can also be kept fresh in water! (Fresh or Dried) Mint Sun Tea: 1. Roughly chop mint 2. Place mint in a glass or jar 3. Fill with filtered water to the top 4. Put the mint/ water mixture out in direct sunlight 5. You know it is ready when the colour in the jar turns from clear to a greenish-brown. 6. Strain, sweeten with honey (or sugar) and enjoy!

Hello Farmers! We have a lot of exciting things planned to still stay connected and engaged with plot holders, volunteers and broader community members this summer. One way of doing so is by creating a monthly newsletter which will be released later this month! We will be including a Question & Answer section called, "Farmer's Forum". The Acadia Community Farm has partnered with a panel of local farmers and plant experts to answer any questions you may have. We invite you to submit questions (and you can request to be added to the email list) by emailing: [email protected]. The answers will be shared in the upcoming newsletter. Questions will be kept anonymous unless you state otherwise. Want to sign up for our newsletter? You can do so by clicking this link: http://eepurl.com/g-xoQb

The Farm may be closed... But the garlic scapes did not get the memo! While the Farm may be closed to the public the staff still have routine maintenance visits to keep the farm in good shape so it is ready for next year, and as you can see some of the perennials do not know how to take a break! Keep your eyes peeled for more updates from the Farm. Happy gardening!

Hello Acadia Farmers, Unfortunately, the Farm will remain closed for the 2020 season due to COVID-19 and the ongoing provincial state of emergency and campus closure. While we know this is disappointing news, we are still pleased to welcome Katherine Waterbury, 4th year student in Community Development and Environmental and Sustainability Studies, to the role of Farm Coordinator for 8 weeks this summer. This is a season like no other and so our focus for 2020 will be outrea...ch and education and preparations for next year. We hope to find ways to support your continued learning and alternative gardening activities in the coming months. Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you all next season.

The Government of Nova Scotia has lifted restrictions on community gardens. This is good news, however, please note that the farm will remain closed for the time being until we have been able to review operational plans and safety protocols for the season. Please check back for updates. http://acadiafarm.org/2020/05/01/acadia-farm-remains-closed/

Greetings gardeners! We have decided to postpone the opening of the Acadia Community Farm to comply with provincial public health directives. Normally the Farm opens around May 1st with staff, students and community members beginning work together in the field. As the University is currently closed to the public and we need to limit interactions on campus the season start date is delayed until [ 99 more words ] http://acadiafarm.org//acadia-farm-opening-postponed-unti/

Many thanks to Sarah Boudreau for four years of hard work and dedication at the Acadia Community Farm. Sarah will complete her education degree this year and so sadly 2019 was her final season as Coordinator of the Acadia Farm. We will miss her, but recognize her many contributions to helping grow the garden over the last four years and wish her well! Thank you Sarah!!! http://acadiafarm.org//thank-you-sarah-for-four-years-of-/
