Some updates: Terry plans to hit the trail with the Pisten Bulley early Thursday morning. Our grooming for tomorrow will be the sixth done with the big machine snce Feb 9 and add to that the Bearcat grooming yesterday. The ice pellets and freezing rain mixed in the present dump of snow will help firm things up and will give us the base we need for late season skiing. Great to see so many families on the ski trails enjoying their extra time together. Hopefully, we’re not in ...lockdown too much longer but having such beautiful skiing makes the best of a difficult situation. We had an abysmal start to our season but that is long behind us. Conditions have been great. There’s tons of skiing left, and it’s worth getting a membership if you haven’t done so already. Membership is now at 401. Purple Trail Purple is a two way trail but at the end (by the Green ) there is a sign asking those entering this end to yield to on-coming skiers. This means getting out of the track and moving to the opposite side of the trail. To save the hassle and prevent congestion, ski in the reverse direction only when the trail isn’t busy. Skaters going in reverse should be extremely careful, particularly on turns. We used to double track the whole Purple but this left the skating surface too narrow. Another issue is the soft centre that happens when the two track setters are down on the Pisten Bulley. Yielding right of way Yielding to on-coming skiers and using exceptional caution apply similarly to skiers skiing in the wrong direction on any trails. All our trails go in a counter-clockwise direction and the classic track is set on the right side of the trail. If you are skiing in the wrong direction, it is your responsibility to get well out of the way of the skier who is travelling in the right direction. Snowshoers Snowshoers are welcome on the ski trails but must keep to the sides, either the right or left, and should walk single file to avoid the centre section of the trail. Usually snowshoers stay to the side of the classic track, but on some trails there is not enough space or too much slant for comfortable snowshoeing . In these places walk on the other side.

Cross-country NL has received permission to extend the CCNL Junior Development Draw from March 6 to April 6, 2021. This is great news since we’ve had so little opportunity to sell tickets at the hut, and now with the COVID lockdown, no way through lessons and the Junior Program .
