October is RVT month and we want to acknowledge our amazing team of RVT's. They work hard everyday to make sure your fur babies have the best care! What is an RVT? Registered veterinary technicians (RVTs) are educated and trained professionals who practice animal health care alongside veterinarians. By performing diagnostic procedures, administering treatments and monitoring patients under the direction of a veterinarian, the RVT allows the veterinarian to provide a high...er level of care to all animals. Our RVT's use all of their training and skills everyday and are willing to go above and beyond for their patients! Thank you to these amazing team members and our entire team of amazing animal lovers who give their best everyday to provide the excellent care to all of our patients. You each have very important roles that allow Alcona Animal Hospital to provide the best health care possible for all of it's patients!

Thankfully rabies is rare in Canada due to the fact that most pets are vaccinated for it. The majority of cases of human rabies in the world are transmitted by dog bites. If you wish to know your pets vaccination status, please contact us at 705-431-5570 and a team member will be happy to assist you.

Today is an exceptionally sad day for our team. We said goodbye to our clinic cat Louie. He has been with us since we opened our new building and we feel so lucky that he chose us when he walked into our parking lot! After trying to find his humans with no success for quite some time, it was an easy decision to let him call our hospital home. It became evident a little while ago that Louie had a nasal tumour and it recently began sever...ely affecting his quality of life and the difficult decision was made to end his suffering. Every staff member here has a special love for Louie and he will never be forgotten. Many of you will remember seeing Louie sauntering around the halls without a care in the world. He was afraid of nothing and had a knack for falling asleep anywhere in any position! He was the perfect clinic cat as he would approach any dog or cat that entered the hospital. We love you and we will miss you Louie, you were one of a kind #sohardtosaygoodbye #bestcliniccat

ALCONA ANIMAL HOSPITAL IS GOING BACK TO CURBSIDE SERVICE. After considering our staff and clients health and safety, we have come to the decision that we must return to curbside service. We wish to do our part to help lessen the spread of COVID 19. We anticipate that our phone lines will be very busy. Please call back when you don't get through as our system does NOT take messages. For non-urgent matters you may email us at [email protected] Thank you f...or your understanding and patience. The following policies are now in effect: 1. No clients will enter the building. 2. All payments will be credit cards processed over the phone. 3. Telemedicine (Facetime, Zoom etc.)will be used whenever possible. 4. When you arrive for your appointment at the hospital you will be asked for your phone number and then an Exam Room Assistant will call you back when they are ready to take your pets history. They will then ask you to meet them at the door of the clinic so they may take your pet into the hospital for their exam. Please line up and keep 6 feet between you and other clients at all times. Please keep a distance of 2m and wear a mask when interacting with staff as well. 5. Once they have gathered the history they will TEMPORARILY record your credit card number so payment can be processed at the end of the appointment, after you speak with the doctor regarding their findings. 6. You will then pick your pet up at the hospital entrance. 7. If you have an appointment with the RVT's then you will call when you arrive, provide payment in advance and then bring your pet to the door to wait for a team member to bring them into the hospital. If you are picking up medication or food, you will call when you arrive, pay over the phone and then the team member will place your items outside the door to the hospital for you to pick up. Our hours are currently Monday-Friday 8am-7pm and Saturday's 8am-1pm. We hope by taking these measures we will positively impact the community and do our part in lowering the number of cases. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding during this time. Please monitor this page for updates as things change.
