It felt appropriate to nestle Gil Adamson’s Ridgerunner amongst the many pieces of my sewing project, as reading this hotly anticipated follow up to The Outlander and sewing curtains are my current extracurricular activities of choice. It goes like this: I thread a bobbin (with help from YouTubers), and then I read a chapter of Ridgerunner. I adjust the tension of my archaic machine (again, shout-out to YouTube), and then I read a chapter of Ridgerunner. I throw my measuring tape across the room in a rage, and then I soothe myself by delving into the world of the Ridgerunner. Finally, I produce 20 inches of completely wonky stitches and reward myself to another chapter of Ridgerunner. Yes, I may never have curtains, but I’m so glad I have this book. Available now!

Join me in welcoming this remarkable collection of short stories to bookshelves everywhere right in time for National Short Story Month! The linked stories in You Are Not What We Expected by Sidura Ludwig (@siduraludwigauthor) present an exquisite portrait of Jewish community, illuminating the unexpected ways we remain connected during times of change.

Though they live on opposite ends of the city, Rachel and Sonya are #ReadingApartTogether. Missing your reading buddy? When you purchase an ebook from @houseofanansi or @groundwoodbooks you can let us know the name and email of a friend and we will send them a second digital copy for free! Link in bio for full instructions. P.S. If you are looking for something stimulating to dive into this weekend, you should definitely pick up No More Nice Girls by Lauren McKeon. @ Toronto, Ontario
