Well....after about a decade of conversations, studies and meetings, there is finally a first step towards a scheduled operation of a water taxi system connecti...ng the 5 Southern Gulf Islands! This September, The Southern Gulf Islands Tourism Partnership and Gulf Islands Water Taxi, bring you AquaLink. AquaLink is a Pilot Project that will operate every Saturday and Sunday during the month of September, to hopefully prove there is a demand for this service. AquaLink allows you to take a day trip to explore the other islands, or take a Saturday morning boat, stay the night at some of the beautiful accomodations on the island of your choice and return on Sunday evening. All for under $20 a trip. Seats will be limited, so book early to make sure you don't miss out. It is a nice, easy booking system as well! Visit www.aqualink.ca for more details, schedules and to make your reservation! Seats will be limited, so don't be on Island Time See more

I have had the privilege of living on Saturna Island for the last 6+ years. It is truly the most amazing place to live, work and play. Late last year I took on... managing the Saturna Lighthouse Pub. A most spectacular location, overlooking the Salish Sea, right next to our island ferry terminal. And, oh, it’s the only pub/restaurant open 7 days a week on this beautiful little island. I do love the restaurant business, I love people enjoying an evening out; being pampered with great food and great service, in a great atmosphere. It has been especially a privilege during these last few months. Watching the landscape change from pandemic to post-pandemic. People are coming into pre-lockdown and enjoying company and smiles it is the best feeling. What I have never experienced in my 15 years of management is this inability to find staff. It is beyond. I have been advertising and searching for 4 months and have literally nobody to interview. I am at a loss. Many of our current staff are heading back to school in September. Keeping the pub open for this amazing island is looking bleak. If you have kept reading this message, maybe you know of someone looking for a life change? A chance to live, work and play on the most beautiful island in B.C. The kitchen is the heart of our business and we are seeking an individual who is passionate, creative, capable, and loves working with a great team to lead our kitchen forward. All interested individuals welcome.
If you’re boating around Saturna or Pender Islands this summer and happen to see people taking your picture from shore, it may not be because you’re looking so ...sharpit’s more likely that you’ve moved into a zone that you should not be in. That photo? It’s a mug shot. The Gulf Islands Sighting Network, which started on Saturna last year and has expanded to Pender, now numbers 37 active members and continues to grow, is composed of island residents who are well-equipped with cameras, telephoto lenses, and range-finders and who report to a central location. The purpose is to document whales for research, but, if they see boats transiting through the zones or fishing within them, the reported data is passed on to Transport Canada for further action, and it’s often immediate. So, know the ISZ boundaries : https://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca//w/docs/srkw-ers-5x7-eng.pdf and, if you’re lucky enough to see whales, Be Whale Wise https://www.bewhalewise.org.

Somewhere over the Rainbow Lyall Harbour, Saturna island
A big Thank You to Chaya, Marc and the rest of the team at Saturna Lighthouse Pub for an absolutely stunning, amazing birthday dinner. The service was superb, p...resentation fabulous and the food? Out of this world! Three different kind of canapés, a seafood platter with scallops and prawns, a halibut salad, the Chef’s creation of fish cakes and pork belly. And to round it off lemon tart, brownies and sticky pudding. The secret is out - Chaya and her team have shown that our little island pub offers anything from the casual fare to fine dining, all at good value and with locally sourced ingredients where possible. We’ll done gang! From Eva Hage See more
