Like many local business, we have closed our doors to promote social distancing and encourage our staff and community to stay at home. Our clinic will be closed until May 4th or until further notice. We also know that the aches and pains won’t magically disappear after a few hours of Netflix :) . So, I wanted to let you know about our new Virtual Care option which is a great way to get started or continue with your rehab goals. I thought I'd answer some common questions I've ...been hearing in case you are wondering what Virtual Care is all about. What is Virtual Care? Virtual care uses video-conferencing technology from your smartphone, tablet or computer to connect you with me from the comfort of your own home. It is a way of providing safe and effective physiotherapy assessment and treatment services when in-person care is not possible. What can I expect during a Virtual Care Session? I will ask you questions about your conditions, assess your mobility and create an effective treatment plan you can do at home. We will go over your custom exercise plan together so I can guide you to make sure you are doing it right. I'll also send you an e-mail with your exercises so you know what to do until our next session. Is Virtual Care right for me? Virtual Therapy can help with most injuries and conditions, though there are some limitations so not all conditions will be appropriate. Are you wondering if virtual care is right for you or if you have the right technology? I'm offering free consultations to allow you to ask questions, test the technology and discuss the best treatment options for you Is Virtual Care covered by my insurance? Do you offer direct billing? More and more insurance companies such as Sunlife and Canada Life have informed their clients that virtual care is covered. I would recommend contacting your insurance provider to determine if virtual care is covered. Yes, If your plan allows for direct billing we'd be happy to do that for you How do I know my Virtual Session and information is private and secure? We offer Virtual Care services through Jane, the same Canadian-owned company that we use for online booking. Jane's platform is encrypted and compliant with all legal and regulatory requirements, so you can rest easy knowing your personal health information and data from your Virtual Care session is never recorded or stored. I will always work from a confidential, private setting so you do not have to worry that anyone will overhear or see our session. If you have any more questions, feel free to email us directly at [email protected]

Do you know the difference between STRAIN and SPRAIN? Strains and sprains may sound similar and are often confused, but they are two completely different types of injuries. Both muscle strains and ligament sprains can be excruciatingly painful. A STRAIN is the stretching or tearing of a muscle or tendon. The tendon is the connection of the muscle to the bone. Whereas, a SPRAIN, is a stretching of the ligaments which is tissue that connects two bones together.... If you’ve ever had a muscle strain, you might’ve been recommended to visit a physiotherapist by your doctor, a family member, or a friend. With no previous knowledge on the benefits of physiotherapy, it’s easy to choose medication as a temporary measure to reduce and control pain. However, choosing physiotherapy will treat the symptoms AND provide education on the extent of the injury, look at possible causes, and ways to prevent recurrence. Do you suffer from frozen shoulder? Frozen shoulder is a common condition which can cause restricted mobility and prevents you to move your shoulder in any direction. Your shoulder can feel like it's frozen to one position and can be extremely painful when trying to move it. Most of the time, frozen shoulder improves but some people are left with permanent stiffness and the need for frozen shoulder physiotherapy. Women over the age of 40 who have diabetes or thyroid pro...blems are more at risk of suffering from this condition. There are 3 known stages of frozen shoulder: Painful Stage: Pain and discomfort is present most or all of the time. Sleeping can be difficult and all movements can aggravate the pain. (Varies but can typically last 3-6 months) Frozen Stage: Pain decreases but the shoulder continues to stiffen. (Can last up to 12 months) Recovery Stage: Pain goes away and shoulder movements begin to come back. (Can last up to 24 months) Our physiotherapists at Argyle Physio are highly trained at assessing frozen shoulder and treating people with the appropriate exercises. Our physiotherapists will conduct a full assessment to determine your current stage, and to develop a personalized treatment plan for you. Consulting a physiotherapist as soon as you experience symptoms can be crucial, pushing the movement too early can make the pain worse, and not pushing enough can lead to more stiffness. 20 days until school starts again, but who's counting? Is your child wearing their backpack correctly? Having the right backpack and wearing it properly is important to maintain a healthy back and spine. Improper wear of a backpack can cause neck and back pain as well as spinal dysfunction in growing children. Below are some helpful tips to keep in mind when choosing the right backpack. Tips:... Backpacks should contain only 10% of your child's weight. If you chose a backpack with multiple compartments, it is important to position the contents throughout the backpack to help keep it balanced. Make sure the backpack has wide adjustable straps and are padded for comfort. These straps need to be adjusted in order to keep the backpack just under the shoulder blades no lower than 4 inches below your child's waistline. If the backpack comes with a waist strap that will also help even out the weight. Always encourage your child to wear BOTH straps and not just one to make sure the weight is evenly distributed.
