Buyer Beware Protect Yourself! The Fire Marshal and Chief Electrical Inspector warn residents to not use appliances that may have been damaged in the flood. ...Know the origin of your second hand appliance. Flood impacted appliances may be making their way onto online platforms which enable New Brunswickers to connect locally to exchange goods and services. This could cause a significant fire risk to people who purchase these appliances without knowing where the appliance originated. Electrical Tips Do not assume that any part of a flooded electrical installation/appliance is safe. Do not energize any electrical equipment if it has been under water. These items may work and appear safe but once they have been under water, they could cause electrocution or fire. To prevent a fire and electrical hazard, you may need to replace the following: Electrical appliances, sump pump, water pumps and related equipment, washer, dryer, dehumidifier, vacuum and tools. There are many switches, motors, and transformers that will be corroded. For information on how to safely dispose of appliances please consult http://www2.gnb.ca//pu/river_watch/2018flood_recovery.html
