Our community is an awesome place to live. Not only are there weekly, monthly, and seasonal events that happen throughout the year, our facilities include the community centre, outdoor rink, gardens, and playground. We can't do it without you, leave a comment or message us to share ideas, suggestions, comments to help make this an even better community.

This month's featured community artist is Maria Newberry, @newberrymaria "I am grateful to live near the charming Confederation Park which is home to many fine trees of our urban forest. I enjoy drawing interesting old trees whose evocative forms open my mind to imaginative digressions, as well as providing shelter and nourishment to birds, insects and understory inhabitants. These are some pages from my sketchbook." If you are an artist in Banff Trail and would like to exhibit your work in the Banff Trail Artist Exhibit, please email your submission to Terese Mullin at [email protected]. Use the subject line Banff Trail Howler Exhibit. Please include up to 5 images, and your artist statement and biography if applicable.

Updates from our Planning and Development Committee (3/3): NEIGHBOURHOOD SPEED LIMIT REVIEW On February 1, Council will be discussing whether to reduce the speed limit of residential and collector roadways. The recommendations are:... Give three readings to the proposed City of Calgary Standard Speed Limit Bylaw to change the unposted speed limit from 50 km/h to 40 km/h within city limits. Direct administration to post 50 km/h speed limit signs on existing Collector roadways unless or until a credible environment for a slower speed limit is provided. Council can choose to either accept administrations’ recommendation to lower the speed limits, put the item on the 2021 municipal election ballot or reject the speed limit reductions. Updates from our Planning and Development Committee (2/3): THE GUIDEBOOK FOR GREAT COMMUNITIES WHAT IS IT AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? The latest draft of the proposed Guidebook for Great Communities has been released. This proposed policy document is important because it will influence how communities in Calgary plan for growth and development - its implications on what gets built where. You can access the document by visiting the link below and clicking Download the Guideboo...k. This version has simplified urban form categories, additional policies to protect heritage assets and new low-density residential category policies. The low-density residential category has attracted significant interest from community associations across the city concerned about conceived impacts to existing patterns of development and land-use from increased densification. https://www.calgary.ca//guidebook-for-great-communities.ht The Guidebook will be going to the Standing Policy Committee on Planning and Urban Development (PUD) committee on February 3. This is an opportunity to send letters or present to members of PUD and / or your City Council here Interested in sharing your thoughts?
