Feb 7-14 is National Have a Heart for Chained Dogs Week . This week aims to raise awareness for dogs that are kept on chains dogs like Handsome, who was found tethered with a chain outside in freezing cold temperatures. Thankfully this sweet boy was rescued in a joint effort by the RCMP and BC SPCA and found a loving forever home. Did you know animal cruelty investigations are 100% donor funded? Did you know there are over 230,000 goats in Canada, and while some goats are pets, the majority are raised commercially for dairy, meat and fibre. The Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Goats is being updated for the first time in 16 years! If you’re interested in advancing goat welfare in Canada, have your voice heard. We received this happy #adoptionupdate on our bonded duo Roscoe & Daisy. This pair are very attached to each other and we were so excited when they headed off to their fur-ever home together. To see how well they are doing really made our day! "Hello, When we spoke yesterday I said I would send some pictures. So here they are.... Both are fitting in very well..it took a few days before they felt really at home, but that is to be expected. The flappy door is available 24 hours so they can go and come in whenever they want. They love to play chase me, no chase me! The overgrown bushes around the perimeter are a favorite scrubbling around place. Both have their own beds, although Daisy prefers to sleep between us overnight. We took them to the vet the day after our arrival and both had a thorough exam with some added diagnostics to make sure they are both in tip top shape. The vet recommended supplements for Rosco and said it wouldn't hurt to also give some to Daisy. So happy to have these two." #BCSPCAcowichan

Update: Thank you so much for saving Marshmallow! This young kitten arrived in our care after being hit by a car and had a badly broken front leg and some lung issues. His leg was stabilized with a cast in hopes that it would heal, but it soon became apparent that he needed an amputation. With your help, he was in the best of care and he has healed beautifully after surgery. He is now in his furever home, and we are happy to report, life’s pretty good for this little 3-legg...ed, kinky tailed guy! #BCSPCAcowichan #sometimesloveisathreeleggedword To help other animals in need of emergency medical care, visit: https://secure3.convio.net/.../medicalEmergency_landing.html Click on the link below to see the full update.

Although there is no statistically significant difference in damage between tenants with pets and tenants without pets, finding pet-friendly housing in B.C. is challenging to say the least. This was the case for Breanna and her 15-month-old puppy. Eventually, she found a landlord who understands the special connection between animals and guardians. For more on Breanna’s story, visit: https://spca.bc.ca/news/the-case-for-pet-friendly-housing/

We received this amazing donation of pet food from Thrifty Foods! How grateful we are for the community support to allow us to operate a pet food bank at the branch as well as continuing to expand our outreach services. We currently have 6 partner organizations helping those in need to access food for their pets in these challenging times. With new requests daily, the need is growing. Thank you Thrifty Foods for helping us support those in need #BCSPCAcowichan

We are feeling incredibly thankful this weekend as we were able to see our oldest #supersenior Bling head off to his retirement home. At 14 and a a half years young he finally found his perfect match. Happy #adoptionday Bling! We are so grateful for your new home & guardians as well as all the support we've received throughout the last few months from adopters, donors, volunteers and our community. Even though we aren't able to see all of you in person as much as in the past, please know our gratitude for all the assistance we receive to help the animals is tremendous. We thank each and every one of you! #BCSPCAcowichan

Willy is giving himself a little cat bath to ensure he’s looking his best, in hopes his future family will soon come to meet him. He can be a shy guy when you first meet and is suited to a calm quiet home with understanding guardians who will help to bring him out of his shell. #BCSPCAcowichan #AdoptBCSPCA Learn more about Willy here : https://adopt.spca.bc.ca/pets/132904/?from_search=true

#Adoptionupdate from our recently adopted #supersenior Thor. We are so happy to hear & see how well he's doing in his new fur-ever home #BCSPCAcowichan #malamutelife "I can’t say enough how great my first week with Thor has been. He’s getting to know people in the neighbourhood, is getting along with other dogs wherever we go, and has been a hit at the ball park! He’s taken to me extremely well, is easy to manage and I am definitely getting to see his goofy side. With th...e medication he seems to move quite well and has more than enough energy for walking, and running - like many a malamute, he seems to favour running in the woods. I am relieved to find he enjoys the water as I am partial to swimming wherever I go, and it helps for keeping cool in the summer. We’re off for our vet check-up tomorrow morning. Thank you for bringing this great dog into my life - he is just the dog I needed!" See more

Double the dogs = Double the love . Roscoe & Daisy are a #bondedduo searching for a home they can spend the rest of their days together in. These boisterous pups are a chatty pair who love to play. They are hoping for an adult home possibly with children over 12. Roscoe is working on building up his strength due to being hit by a car many years ago. He doesn't let this get him down though. He loves to tag along with Daisy for walks. They both prefer to keep a close eye on e...ach other, always being happiest when they are together. Do you have space in your heart & home for these two love bugs? #BCSPCAcowichan #AdoptBCSPCA Learn more about Daisy & Roscoe here: https://adopt.spca.bc.ca/pets/131631/?from_search=true https://adopt.spca.bc.ca/pets/131721/?from_search=true
