Did you know aversive training methods endanger the loving relationship between you and your dog? With so much misinformation online about dog training, it can be exhausting to navigate it and choose a dog trainer. It is National Train Your Dog Month, and there is no better time to reward your dog with a good trainer. Who's ready to say "Goodbye" to 2020, and "Hello" to 2021? Harold Zelt is, that's who - so he helped to create a calendar of local dogs in White Rock to raise over $900 for the BC SPCA! While struggling with lockdown restrictions, Harold decided to take pictures of the local dogs of Surrey-White Rock just to share with their owners, however after collecting dozens of photos he decided to compile them into a calendar, and to donate all sale proceeds! Harold's story was feature...d in the Peace Arch news, and we are so incredibly grateful for this Christmas surprise! Thank you so much Harold and the White Rock Senior's Center for giving us something to look forward to in 2021! If you are interested in ordering a calendar, you can reach out to Si Cussen at the White Rock Senior's Village: cussen @ retirementconcepts.com

We had a holiday visit from little Joey! He first came into the care of the BC SPCA when he was found in rough shape, abandoned in a park. We provided him much needed veterinary attention and he was fostered by a special pair of Surrey branch volunteers: they soon discovered that they were meant to be Joey's forever family! Warmest wishes to Joey and his family!

At the BC SPCA we love to hear from our adopters about how their furry friends have become a part of their lives. This story is an especially touching one. Cosmo, who was adopted from us in 2004, is now celebrating his 16th birthday! Read more about Cosmo's story and many more like it below. https://spca.bc.ca/adoption_stories/cosmo/

A BIG thank you to Rachel, who has decided to celebrate her birthday in a very special way! This soon to be 18 year old has reached out to family and friends and requested donations to the SPCA in lieu of presents this year. As an aspiring vet, the welfare of animals is one of Rachel's passions; she looks forward to contributing to their care through the organization of this fundraiser. If you are interested in helping Rachel reach her target goal, please visit her GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/bc-spca-emergency-help

Emergency supplies call out: We have in close to 30 cats in our care currently that are receiving extensive specialty care - they all came to us together, and as you can imagine they have been burning through our supplies at a high rate! Normally, all our cats are provided with Hills Science Diet, through our amazing partnership with Hill's. These particular cats are, however, highly picky eaters so we are in need of some more variety to ensure that we can keep these cats fed... and get them back to health! Currently we are in the most need of dry cat food kibble and unscented clumping cat litter. We can also always use canned wet cat food, however the need is not as high as dry kibble at this time. If you are able to help, please reach out via email at [email protected], by phone at 604 574 1711 ext 6, OR you can drop by anytime and drop your donation in our bins out front (give us a quick call when you've done so, so they don't stay out all night!) Thank you all for your continued support, it makes all the difference to the animals!

Did you know that rats can make excellent companion animals? They're smart and can be very social! Paul (pictured here in his favorite hammock) loves to spend time with his foster family and waits eagerly for them at the cage door each morning. His favourite activities include fishing for frozen peas, exploring new places and, of course, snuggles! Read more about rat care on our website! https://spca.bc.ca/faqs/caring-for-rats/ Paul and his two equally adorable brothers are available for adoption now at the Surrey BC SPCA.

A group effort goes to the dogs! Our volunteer-run pet food bank coordinated a huge donation with Paws for Hope Animal Foundation, Animal Welfare Advisory Network of BC and the Binche Whut'en First Nation, all shipped FREE OF CHARGE by Bandstra Transportation Systems!!! 450 pounds of food went to help dogs in need in Northern B.C. Thank you to our local community for your generosity, to our volunteer who got everything packed up, and to all the organizations involved in getting pet food to where it is most needed during these challenging times of 2020. This is something to celebrate!

Look at these gorgeous faces! A trio of boys that have been in "limbo" for far too long and want their own home: Simon, Paul, and Burt. They are used to a double Critter Nation cage and time out on free roam. All of them are gentle and each has a different personality between interactive and slightly shy. Contact the Surrey branch for more info at [email protected] - rats kept in threes or more get the natural benefit of a "colony" feeling and can be so interesting to keep this way!

HUGE Thank you to young Shlok Parkhi for his donation of $200 to our branch, which he raised by taking pictures of pets for owners! At only 6 years old, Shlok took over 102 pet photos in just under a month, and decided to donate proceeds from his project to the animals at the Surrey Education and Adoption Centre. We are in awe of Shlok's generosity and creativity at such a young age, and are very thankful for his donation!

They not only donated paper supplies to the branches, but ROYALE is also providing funding to help us find forever homes for animals like Dion!
