UPDATE ON COVID-19 & OUR COUNSELLING SERVICES: If you are like us, you have been receiving many messages from businesses regarding their COVID-19 response plans. We are sorry that we are adding to this list, but we wanted to let you know of your options moving forward in terms of meeting with our clinical staff for your sessions. In addition to regular in-office sessions, we are pleased to offer sessions through an online video/audio platform call OnCall Health. Those of you... in more remote locations are already familiar with this. However, for our local clients, we want you to be aware that we can easily set this up should you wish to limit your travels and practice social distancing. We are happy to send additional information regarding this service, which is specifically designed for online therapy, with security meeting or exceeding health care and privacy standards. In writing this message, we want to achieve a balance of both offering this option, but make it clear that until further notice, the decision is yours. Remote therapy has a range of benefits and risks, as does all therapy. We would discuss this with you either before or during your first OnCall session. We have been using OnCall Health for the last 4 years. They are a Canadian company, with a server based in Canada, and the sessions are not recorded. In addition, Dr. Burrows has over 15 years experience providing remote therapy through a range of technology. He also serves as a consultant in this area. The requirements for using this service include an internet connection, a computer with a camera, mic, and speakers/headphones. The service works on most smartphones and tablets. We are currently cleaning the office twice daily, and masks are available if needed; however, we ask that clients who are or have been sick rebook any in-office appointments until they have been symptom-free for 14 days, or utilize OnCall health. We are monitoring the situation as it unfolds. We are in regular consultation with a Registered Nurse, who has been providing additional guidance and information based on information from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control and Vancouver Island Health Authority. Additional measures to protect our staff, clients, and the vulnerable community members they serve and interact with will be implemented as needed. It is important to remember that for the vast majority, this virus is not a major risk, but the idea of social distancing in order to slow infection rates and reduce pressure on our health care system is warranted and prudent. Sincerely, Becker Burrows & Associates

What is the difference between a counsellor, psychologist, and psychiatrist? Many people have a difficult time getting an informed answer to this question, and there are a lot of misconceptions out there. We've tried to address some of the most common questions we hear on our website FAQ

Sarah met none other than Philip Zimbardo of the Standford Prison Experiments at the American Psychological Association's 2016 convention! It doesn't get much more exciting than this in the psychology world!

Anxiety in new parents is common, but can become a problem when it starts to significantly affect our overall wellbeing and feelings about ourselves, our partner, and our baby. Talking to a therapist can help. We offer sliding scale rates for clients who are not covered by workplace benefits.

ADHD can present unique challenges for people in the workplace, but these issues are often overlooked or attributed to something else. Dr. Burrows and Sarah Burrows will be presenting on clients who are struggling with ADHD-related challenges in the workplace and how counsellors can help at the upcoming EAPA meeting on March 24th.
