Today is Internationally recognized as the Trans Day of Remembrance (TDoR), a day of mourning, reflection and mobilization towards collective action. In partic...ular today, we remember Julie Berman, a anti-trans violence advocate and proud Trans Woman killed in Toronto in 2019. 2020 is on record as having the highest rates of anti-trans violence, with murders of 350 trans and gender-diverse people, 98% of which identified as trans women or trans-feminine. Recent research published by Transrespect vs Transphobia - TvT has confirmed COVID-19 is disproportionately impacting trans people globally, in particular the most marginalized including Black and women of colour, sex workers, migrant workers, youth and those with low-incomes. This TDoR 2020, here are 5 steps you can take today towards ending trans violence: 1. Amplify trans voices 2. Commit to concrete actions 3. Highlight resources & information related to trans rights while using a unifying hashtag #TDoR2020. 4. Visit https://buff.ly/2AatLGm to learn more about those being memorialized this year and the history of TDoR- held in November to honor Rita Hester killed on November 28th, 1998 and call attention to anti-transgender hatred, violence and prejudice. 5. Check out the new Trans PULSE Canada project- https://buff.ly/3fgoMIB
