Biz X magazine, February 2021. Vol 24. Issue 2. Digital Edition - https://bizxmagazine.com/biz-x-magazine-february-2021-vol-/ ON THE COVER Staying Afloat!18... Health comes first before all else. The COVID-19 global pandemic made us realize this more than we ever did before. And in order to stop the spread of the virus, businesses and organizations all over the province had to shut down at certain times. While COVID-19 restrictions have proved devastating for many local businesses, they have opened up opportunities for others in the healthcare services and technology sectors. We all know that regular hand washing, social distancing and mask wearing is a must, but there are many companies developing new products and services, such as contact tracing, so we can fight the coronavirus, together. There are also other businesses providing staffing for nursing homes, seniors’ care, water testing kits, mobility products, and services to get you to and from the hospital safely.

Huron Lodge Residents Test Positive for COVID-19 Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, staff and administration at Huron Lodge have implemented protective measures and worked tirelessly to prevent the introduction of COVID-19 into the home. City Redeployments Support Local Second Wave Response City of Windsor says staff are once again redeploying to help the community as Windsor-Essex copes with the impacts of the second wave of the global public health crisis. I want to thank all of those who are working through this holiday season to ensure that our front-line service delivery partners have the resources that they need to continue to function and provide quality public services as all organizations cope w...ith the continuing impacts of this second wave, said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. Windsor is a community that stands together and supports each other in tough times and we are seeing this play out on a daily basis across our city. External redeployments have been arranged to support local service delivery partners and relieve administrative burdens to allow trained, expert staff to focus more on core priorities, public health, client care, and service delivery. These deployments include: - assisting the Salvation Army and Downtown Mission with logistical support; - enhanced staff screening and non-medical administrative work at Huron Lodge; and - supporting the Windsor Essex County Health Unit through expanded front-line contact centre services. Internal redeployments have also taken place, to increase the frequency of cleaning and screening at City of Windsor facilities and workplaces where employees continue to operate, as part of ongoing public administration and service delivery that is not otherwise possible to be done off-site.

City of Windsor News Windsor residents are getting a two-week break from the hard-sided container by-law. Residents are reminded that collection crews will not pick up furniture, appliances, electronics, loose material or household chemical waste. The Public Drop Off Depot located at Central and E. C. What started as one of our smaller T2B programs has quickly become one of our most extensive, more essential programs. This week, we donated an amazing gift of... 50 iPads to Windsor Regional Hospital and Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare. This donation was made possible by our sponsors, the participants from The Ride to Survive 2020 and The Stephanie & Barry Zekelman Foundation. Nobody wants to be isolated, especially this time of year. This is why we decided to expand our iPad program, Connecting for Comfort. While you’re in the hospital, there is nothing more important than staying connected with the world outside your hospital room. As hospital visitations become increasingly limited, virtual visiting has become an imperative source for connecting with our loved ones. These iPads will help bridge the gap between hospital and home. Comfort is in the connection. Check out our Media Release for the full story. #ConnectingForComfort #GiveWhereYouLive #WeAreT2B #T2B

SECOND UNIT OUTBREAK AT MET CAMPUS Windsor Regional Hospital has confirmed a COVID-19 outbreak on a second unit at Met Campus. Five patients from the 6th floor North (6N) unit at Met Campus have tested positive in the last four days and are considered hospital-acquired cases. All patients on the unit were tested on Friday, Dec. 18 and staff from the unit are in process of being tested. No staff related to 6N have been identified as positive for COVID-19 to date. Testing of... both patients and staff will be repeated. The confirmation of the 6N outbreak follows the Thursday confirmation by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit of an outbreak on the 4th floor North (4North) unit at Met Campus, following confirmation of six staff members who had tested positive for COVID-19. Two patients also were confirmed positive for COVID-19 and while there is no evidence that either patient contracted the virus while in hospital, that cannot be completely ruled out. All staff and patients from the unit have been tested to determine any further spread on the 4N unit.

City of Windsor Proactive By-Law Enforcement Blitz Windsor by-law enforcement officers will be conducting proactive blitz enforcement related to pandemic regulations beginning Monday, November 23, 2020, and continuing for the foreseeable future. Officers will be attending area businesses and facilities to ensure their COVID-19 safety plans are prepared and posted in a conspicuous place for patrons to take note. By-law officers will also be watching for physical distan...cing, mask usage and gathering numbers in public spaces. We’re moving from a position of potential education to one of definite enforcement, said Manager of By-Law Enforcement Bill Tetler. We’re going to ensure businesses are helping lead the way in fighting the spread of COVID-19. Under the Reopening Ontario Act, businesses must prepare and make available a safety plan describing the measures and procedures that have been or will be implemented to reduce the transmission risk of COVID-19. Officers will be laying fines under the act when non-compliance is found, and fines can range from 750 dollars to as high as 10 million dollars for a non-compliant corporation. On Thursday, area mayors, including Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, called for a zero tolerance approach and stepped up enforcement for those not following COVID-19 regulations.
