I have so many wonderful memories of my ten years on this thoroughbred farm. The amount I learned from all the horses is unforgettable. I got to meet trainers, owners and riders from all over the country. Besides the residents of the farm, I had the opportunity to rehabilitate retired or injured horses. I learned a lot from the horses and the experts at the track. Every day I am asked about equine supplements. This is a question I never take lightly. I have taken courses on equine nutrition and I have dabbled with herbs and homeopathic remedies, etc. I have researched a million products and here is one thing they all have in common: the seller wants you to buy these products. Dr. David Ramey DMV has written many articles and books on this subject and some notable comments he has made refer to the false claims made by products. There i...s almost no safety requirements or regulatory controls in place to protect you from misleading claims or any rigorous testing to prove the efficacy and safety of said products. That being said, some companies do have morals and studies done. It is on you, the consumer to check the facts. If the company does not disclose the list of ingredients and the amounts of each ingredient, that is a big warning to you. The supplement industry is estimated at well over 20 billion dollars a year! And because of the lack of regulation in Canada, almost anyone can mix you up a supplement and sell it!! The only time there is action on these problems is when the consumer of the product gets sick or dies, and then it is up to you to prove it was caused by the said product....go ahead and try to prove it! Right?? According to Dr. Ramey DMV, the majority of our horses don't require supplements to achieve optimal health, just good quality forage. There are exceptions of course, and blood tests will tell you what these exceptions are. I truly hope this will help answer some of your questions. People are always asking me about the Bemer blanket so I decided to make a post about it. I recently worked on a clients horses at a local stable, these horses have loving homes provided by Brent Sedore and Lissa Quinlan. I thought I would share my experience with the Bemer blanket system. Lissa Quinlan is an independent Bemer Distributor, she introduced me to this technology and has generously shared her wealth of information with me. Like with any other therapeutic tre...atment, the Bemer is not a magic bullet that fixes everything and it certainly does not replace me. But it can enhance a horse’s performance and his/her healing cycle. This system works on the body’s blood circulation, it is a pulsed electromagnetic field device, it is designed to optimize blood flow at a cellular level and stimulate muscle cells for repair. Optimally it should be used 2 times a day for maximum benefit. I have been working with Brent and Lissa’s horses for about a decade so I know their bodies quite intimately. When I worked on them this past week I noticed significant changes in the feel of muscle tone, flexibility and condition. Lissa has been consistent with her Bemer treatment and her attention to the dietary needs of her herd, and this was evident in the changes I noticed. My conclusion is that this system helps me to help your horse when used properly, as with any other therapy tool.
