I don't cook very often. I don't really need to because my hubby is amazing in the kitchen. Meals, sauces, desserts, you name it, he makes it all. I usually only step in when he's not around and the kiddos need to eat. But every now and then, I feel the call to create some magic in there too. ... Usually, this time of year my Mom comes over and cooks a traditional 'Jigs' dinner for us. She shows up in the wee hours of the morning to get the turkey started and all day long our house is filled with delicious smells, and heartfelt conversations. It is one of my very favorite days of the year. 2020 is different. We are all far apart. But in honour of my Mom, who passed on the knowledge, and her grandmother before her, I've spent the day peeling, stuffing, mixing, blending and hoping that I get most of it right. As I am about to share this amazing spread with my littles, I can't help but feel nostalgic. The turkey may have been half frozen when I put it in, and the figgy duff bag may have popped open (if you know, then you know), but the gravy is freaking delicious which is a major success! I stood peeling veggies with my great aunt's knife and I could feel generations of women standing with me. I could feel the pride they felt as they placed plate after plate of their loved one's favorite food on the table. I could feel the joy as they watched their husbands, sisters, brothers, cousins, friends and children laughing around a table that they filled from end to end. I could feel the love that they now carry for me and my children. I could feel them all around us, and that is a Blessing indeed. #2020christmas #jigsdinner #ancestors #yum
