"I recommend that police should be de-tasked where possible, and critically the funds that would otherwise go to policing be put towards infrastructure and serv...ices that create safer communities... for example, affordable housing, with appropriate supports for British Columbians with mental health problems, addictions and other needs that make them vulnerable." #DefundtheVPD https://www.cbc.ca//briti/cut-police-build-homes-1.5911093

Tax credits and saving plans for disabled persons are simply not good enough, and we’ve certainly witnessed that, NDP MP Leah Gazan said in Wednesday’s meetin...g. The failures of this federal government to support disabled people during the pandemic should prompt a sweeping review of federal disability programs and policies. See more

Lynda Steele invited Stephen Smart and me on the political panel today (15 min). Talked about: - the #BCelxn2020 & Wilkinson's 8:01 moment; and... - the federal #CPC/#LPC playing election chicken. Thanks to Lynda and Stephen, always a pleasure! #cdnpoli #bcpoli

CW: Canada's Indigenous Residential Schools *Reshared post: Residential school... To the people that say get over it... have a read. And this is just 1 facet of removing the Indian from the child!... The rooms were big, cold and they echoed. The beds were lined up in long clinical rows that looked more like a hospital infirmary or jail . There were no toys, no dolls, teddy bears or even warm blankets. Everybody felt a constant nervous uncertainty. At night you could hear sobbing from underneath blankets. Crying from cold, hunger pain, loneliness for family and fear of what the next day would bring. If somebody wet the bed they would be forced to walk to the laundry with the soiled sheets on their head to humiliate them. Everybody was always hungry except for the nuns the priest and adult workers in the school. They all ate well. The girls who worked in the kitchen were creative They would hide a few eggs in the big pots of oatmeal to cook them. Then sneak them out to little ones who cried from hunger pain. Those girls kept the young ones alive. The stronger kids often took the punishment for the younger or more frail ones. And the welts on their bodies confirmed that. Laying in bed, your ears were always on alert. Listening for the dreaded click click click of the nuns heels down the hall. Or the shuffling walk of the priests heavy feet. Who would he grab tonight? What bed would he stand beside. Thankful it wasn't you but terrified for the one that he would choose.. . . . . Indigenous history includes Residential Schools The places the government and church took the children they kidnapped. With respect to all who endured these tremoundously difficult times in their lives. In memory of all the children who died in residential schools. Written by, Luba Williams You may share, copy, repost If copying or reposting please be sure to give credit to the author For decades the government and churches systematically kidnapped tens of thousands of innocent children by force from their family.
