And now for something completely different... CONGRATULATIONS to Ashley and Jamie! They tied the knot in a lovely little ceremony last weekend, and they really stole my heart. They planned their wedding in only a week, and on the Monday, Ashley dropped me a line inquiring about a cute little birdcage veil... and whether I thought I could get it to her in Quebec on time. As in... by Friday of course! I love a challenge, and I love making a difference in whatever little... way I can. So I packaged it up with care and ran to the Post Office to see what they could do. Two days they said... at most 4!! I was thrilled. So off it went with fingers and toes crossed. And everyone loves a happy ending... which is that it arrived in good time to be enjoyed. I received an email earlier this week with these gorgeous photos of a couple who I'd hug if I could! I was so delighted that they took the time to drop me a line and share a bit of their joy with all of us at The Brides' Project. You made my day. One of the really neat things about shopping at The Brides' Project is that you will find gowns that are one of a kind. There are a LOT of them! We consider ourselves pretty savvy here about designers and the plethora of pieces out there. And then this happens... a bride brings us a dress that surprises us all! Not only is it unique, but a designer we're not familiar with and a total treasure! Heather brought us this incredible piece called "Aralia" by Temperley Brid...al in the UK. Sustainable fashion is all about making the most of what we already have. This dress is a perfect example of these techniques in use. The original gown was very busy. Layers of beaded net, over layers of floral lace, over layers of organza... it was just too heavy for what current brides are looking for. Using upcycling techniques, we separated the layers and refinished them to give us not one but TWO fantastic upcycled gowns. There is so much love in these photos. Talia brought us her gorgeous Maggie Sottero "Jade" in memory of her mother, pictured, who passed away in 2018. She was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in 2013 and had 5 years with a relatively good quality of life. During that time, she got to see both of her children married, including Talia (pictured) in 2017 which was an immeasurable gift. She's missed each and every day, and so this dress was brought to us to help us... continue supporting the organizations who help fight this disease that steals our loved ones far too soon. Opening the 'magic bin' on the front porch has been particularly joyous lately, and it makes my day to clutch the new donations in my arms and bring them into their new but temporary home. This particular dress arrived by mail from Nicole... so I also had the enjoyment of opening a parcel (c'mon, everyone likes to open a present, right?). We asked Nicole why she decided to donate her gown and she mentioned that her father recently passed away.
