Elbow Island Park was temporarily closed to the public beginning in 2017 to allow us to complete major park improvements, including fish habitat restoration, fl...ood mitigation work, as well as the installation of functional public art. We are pleased to share that Elbow Island Park is now open to the public. We have made the following improvements to the park: Reconnected the side channel to the river to ensure water flows throughout the year. Usability and function of the park while maintaining the space as a natural area. Replanted in the areas which were disturbed. Tree removal was limited; any trees that were removed were incorporated back into the project. The side channel has been designed to have optimal flow and depths to create fish spawning in the side channel. Installed functional public art, including new artistic staircase and seating on the island. Please note that a three-year maintenance plan is in place to ensure new vegetation can establish in the park. During this period, park users may notice temporary fencing around planted areas and are asked to stay on designated trails to avoid trampling new plants.
