I had the pleasure of a socially distanced, masked visit with Mary Casey this week. Mary was a major force behind the camp, Nurse to Chair of the Board, from the 1960s to the early 2000s. Mary is still very active, her book on Camp Big Canoe will be published soon. I was picking up some old files from Mary and they included some pictures. A few are in this post (from the late 70s).

Camp Big Canoe Environmental Presentation! On March 22nd at 7:30PM Dr. Norman Yan, Ph.D, FRSC will be speaking in a webinar about the ASHMuskoka project. The project is a joint venture between Camp Big Canoe, Friends of the Muskoka Watershed and Trent University. Send a note to [email protected] to register. Dr. Yan will be speaking specifically about the Camp Big Canoe forest and lake. He will detail the current situation and the goals of the ASHMuskoka project in improv...ing that situation for the long term health of your camp, and for Muskoka, as this research is applied. We all have gifts we bring to the world, and today is a great day to give them to those around you. At camp, it's easy for campers and staff to give their time and talents and that's the magic that makes Camp Big Canoe what it is. Today, we challenge you on this Giving Tuesday to give those same talents, time, and joy to folks in your lives who need a little magic this winter. Give a wave. Give a phone call to a friend. Give a memory of a happy time spent together. ... Give a surprise window visit to a neighbour who lives alone. Give a warm fuzzy. We all have so much to give and today is a great day to do it! We are excited to open our 2021 registration at 9am on November 21! Some things that are a little different this year: - We have limited our capacity to 50% until we have a clearer picture of what the summer will look like. As we get closer to the summer we may open more spots when we know we can do so safely.... - Early Bird Discount (or Hopeful Bird!) is now January 15 (instead of November 15) - Registration deposits for 2021 are $75 (instead of $250) We don't know what July 2021 will look like yet, but if we can run our programs safely we will. In the meantime, preparations have begun in earnest to ensure a healthy, safe and fun camping experience that you can trust. Thank you for your support, and for sticking with us. We can't wait for the campfire at the end of the tunnel!

We've added a new item to our store! CAMP BIG CANOE COOKS! This is a cookbook that was organized by some of our alumni. It features recipe ideas from people in our community. Each purchase includes a code to download a digital copy of the book, and all proceeds go towards helping more kids come to camp....
