After being bleak and dreary for many years, the Chausse des cossais replaced its asphalt and parking lots with a new square that is more coherent with its vocation as an institutional hub and tourist centre. In 2003, the City of Rimouski asked Lemay+DAA Group to design a waterfront promenade called La Promenade de la Mer. The promenade serves pedestrians and cyclists and offers panoramic view points of the St.Lawrence River. The Mackenzie King Estate project won a 2004 National Merit award.
