Thank you @workfromhome.mommy for the review! We’ve all probably heard about the negative effects of too much screen time for kids. An excessive amount of screen time for kids can cause both behavioural and physical harm to a child. To list a few negative effects: -higher chance of obesity -educational problems... -problems with sleep light emitted from screens interferes with the sleep cycle in the brain and can cause insomnia -children may be more likely to suffer from problems with attention and may have a higher chance of meeting the criteria for behavioural issues such as ADHD or ADD -staring at a screen may also cause physical problems such as strained, dry eyes, blurred vision, and headaches. -children may end up with poor posture which may also cause neck and shoulder pain Subesh and I used to limit Mya’s screen time pre-Covid due to all of the reasons above. And although Mya loves playing with her toys, she was also very drawn to watching tv, playing on her iPad and her Nintendo Switch. When we had the initial lock down back in March, we were all stuck at home, and bored so we loosened up our rules about how much screen time Mya had. And let’s be honest, most parents can agree, as bad as we know screen time can be, we often let the kids have screen time so we can have a break. Now that Mya is doing virtual schooling and glued to a screen for the majority of her day, we’ve really been trying to reduce her screen time. We do this by finding activities she enjoys to occupy her time, but it’s been hard to find things that she will continue to show interest in. In my search to find things for her to do, I found CanadianKidsCo a company that provides curated kids’ subscription boxes aimed to allow kids to have fun playing, learning and doing crafts AWAY from the screen. Last week we got our first box, and I posted an IGTV video of Mya unboxing it (and can be found in my grid). The items in the box are unique and very age appropriate. Mya has been glued to the items all week, from reading the books, to playing with her plasticine to solving her puzzle box. We love these boxes aimed for Canadian kids aged 3-12. See more
