It is not too soon to think about nominating a Greater Edmonton visual artist or artists for the 2021 Eldon + Anne Foote Edmonton Visual Arts Prize. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 12, 2021. The Eldon + Anne Foote Edmonton Visual Arts Prize was established with the generous support of the Eldon + Anne Foote Fund at Edmonton Community Foundation and in partnership with the Edmonton Arts Council and CARFAC Alberta. This Visual Arts Prize celebrates the brilliance ...of Visual Artists in Edmonton. This prize is open to Edmonton area artists nominated by an individual or gallery/organization located in the Greater Edmonton area (Greater Edmonton, as defined by the Edmonton Community Foundation, includes the City of Edmonton and its four surrounding counties). Entries may be in any visual arts media and must have been shown in a Greater Edmonton area exhibition space during 2020 (January 1, 2020 - December 31, 2020) or in an online exhibition during the calendar year 2020. Submissions are judged by an independent jury selected by CARFAC Alberta. Submission deadline is Friday March 12, 2021 at 4pm. The prize winners will be announced at a short ceremony in late May or early June 2021. PRIZE: As gallery exhibitions were, and continue to be, disrupted by COVID-19, the independent jury will determine how to divide the $12,000 prize pool among three artists they have rated most favourably. As a result, for this year, there may not be a $10,000 winner. The 2021 Eldon + Anne Foote Edmonton Visual Arts Prize Application Form can be downloaded here. https://bit.ly/3kvrHxN

CARFAC Alberta and CARFAC Saskatchewan present our final webinar of 2020: Thoughts About Decolonization in Museums, Galleries, and Art Practices This webinar will explore the work of decolonization as a current movement in museums, galleries, and personal art practices. It is less about providing answers for decolonization, and more about reflecting on some of the current activities surrounding it today. What are some things that museums and galleries are doing towards decolo...nization? Are these working? What are some of the behind-the-scenes conversations relating to this work? How might artists position themselves to join in on these conversations? WITH Dr. Troy Patenaude, PhD is an art and cultural historian, curator, experiential educator, and hiking guide with a passion for projects that help make Canada a more just and resilient place. He was born in Anishnaabek ancestral lands now covered over by the Robinson-Huron and Williams Treaties. His mom’s side of the family are from British settler-colonial descent, and his dad’s side of the family are from a community that is at the moment part of the Georgian Bay Métis Community. For the past twenty years, Troy has been facilitating cross-cultural sharing and outdoor education programs concerning the effects of colonization, mainly throughout Blackfoot, Tsuut’ina, Îyârhe Nakoda, and Métis Nation of Alberta Region 3 lands now covered over by Treaty 7. More recently, Troy has curated major exhibitions throughout Alberta, including Treaty 7 in Calgary, and The Dream We Form By Being Togetherthe official Canada 150 exhibition at the Alberta Legislature. Troy is currently the Director of Cultural Development at Fort Calgary National Historic Site, and an instructor at the Alberta University of the Arts. This event is free to members of CARFAC across Canada, and $25.00 for nonmembers. Get you ticket through Eventbrite http://bit.ly/2HGyJCR
