To kick things off during National Addictions Awareness week here is a quick explanation on person first language and why it is so important. In order to reduce stigma, changing the way we talk about addictions is an essential step. Instead of using derogatory terms which put more emphasis on a condition than the person themselves, sticking to person first language can ensure that people are being treated like people. In addition, it is essential to completely ditch stigmatizing terms such as "addict", "junkie" or "crackhead" which create harmful stereotypes to people dealing with substance use disorders.

Many COVID-19 safety measures have been put in place throughout the pandemic to allow users to stay safe while visiting the facilities.
