Cascadia Council 23.11.2020

Good Afternoon, On Friday November 20th the Council Key 3 sent out an update on our current Scouting Covid Stage. We have received a lot of feedback over the weekend and have come to realize two things: 1) this email did not go to every volunteer & rover as it should have, and 2) we didn't take enough time to explain the rationale behind our decision. We hope this email will provide some clarity and we apologize for the confusion that this caused. On Wednesday November 25, 2...Continue reading

ATTENTION CASCADIA As of yesterday, November 19th, a new health order was mandated for the province of BC, where the restrictions for social and family gatherings have been applied to the entire province. Updated Health Order: https://www2.gov.bc.ca//covid-19-provincial-s/restrictions... However - good news for our scouting groups - the health order allows for outdoor sports and recreation to continue. After deep consideration, and reviewing our pandemic standards, the Cascadia CK3 find we have the necessary precautions in place to allow scouting in BC to return to Stage 2 - outdoors only- effective immediately. It is important to note that masks are mandatory for all volunteers and youth attending an outdoor meeting. Patrols of 16 and 2-meter distancing are still in effect. Scouts Canada Stage 2 Pandemic Standards: https://www.scouts.ca//pandemic-program-modification-stand Please note: Stage 2 does not restrict groups who prefer to meet online. We encourage our Group Commissioners to consider the desires of scouters, youth, and parents if they prefer online scouting at any time. In support of online Scouting as an option, the CK3 are working on organizing a council-wide virtual group for any youth to join at the beaver, cub, or scout level. More news to come on this in the next few weeks. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the fresh air with your patrol! Lastly, the CK3 would like to share our deep appreciation for our volunteers who have been patient and understanding during our 2-week virtual break. Your hard work and diligence towards planning and organizing outdoor adventures for our youth will have a lasting effect. As always, we will continue to monitor the situation, and notify you of any changes. If you need any help or support, please reach out to your Group Support Scouter, your Relationship Manager, or the CK3 (Caitlyn Piton- CC; Nicole Congdon- CYC; Alex Longo- CRM). The CK3 are hosting a LIVE virtual Town Hall this Wednesday, November 25th from 7-8:30pmfor any scouters, youth, or parents who would like to join. We will be addressing pandemic stages during this time. ATTENTION CASCADIA As you may have seen in an email sent by the Council Key 3, we will be returning to Stage 1 Scouting - Virtual Scouting in BC, effective immediately until further notice (**Please note, Yukon Scouting remains in Stage 4**). Although this was a very difficult decision, this follows what is being asked by Provincial Health Authorities. It is our responsibility as Scouts to lead by example and if we all work together, we can flatten the curve. The numb...ers in the regions of our council may still be low, but this is going to require a provincial wide effort to bring the numbers back down and protect our fellow community members. Our hope is that this will be a short return to Virtual Scouting. We will provide further updates as time goes on. Stage 1 is in effect until a further announcement is released. There are many virtual Scouting resources that can be accessed on the Scouts.ca website and we hope that Groups will continue to run programing for youth as it is more important now than ever. If you have any questions, please contact your Group Support Scouter, Relationship Manager or the Cascadia Council Key 3 at [email protected]. See more
