For the Month of October, Lucas decided he would help raise much needed awareness and funds for breast cancer research. He encouraged friends and family to donate to his fundraiser and if Lucas reached his goal of $1000.00 he committed to shave his head. By October 31st, Lucas was able to raise an amazing $1250.00 for breast cancer research! Thank you Lucas and to everyone who helped raise awareness and gave donations to the fundraiser. Together, we are showing that community is bigger than cancer.

On October 21, Dwayne Buckle began his journey in Red Deer, Alberta. A journey, over 1000km, that is seeing him hike across the Rockies through the Kootenays, into the Lower Mainland, and all the way up Vancouver Island to Port Hardy, all to help raise awareness and funds for the cancer cause. Like many of us, Dwayne and his family have been touched by cancer and have lost two family members to this awful disease. His motivation comes from this loss and his hope that one day there will be a life without cancer. To help raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Fitness Lair in Unity and Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan partnered together for Burpees for Boobs. Fitness Lair decided to put on this fundraiser as they have had several members of their gym go through the breast cancer journey. They decided they wanted to hold a community event to raise money and show their support. At the end of October, the team of coaches at Fitness Lair did one burpee for every dollar raised. They had set their goal for $2000, however, by October 31st they raised an amazing $4457 for breast cancer research!! That means the team of coaches did 4,457 burpees! Way to go Fitness Lair!!

We are pleased to introduce you to Kaitlyn who recently won an award at the Association of Fundraising Professionals awards in Regina for Outstanding Youth Philanthropist. At only the age of 12 years old, Kaitlyn has shown what is to be selfless and empowered, to have a strong sense of community, and to have passion to help raise money and awareness for the cancer cause. When she was younger her grandmother passed away from brain cancer and since then she's been working hard to raise money in her honour. Thank you Kaitlyn for your many years in raising awareness and donations. We are truly grateful for your ongoing support. You deserve this nomination!
