Here’s a not so well-known fact: You do NOT need a physician’s referral to see a physio! Physiotherapists are trained in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of a wide range of musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, and cardiopulmonary conditions.... Our physios are primarily orthopaedic focused (dealing with the musculoskeletal system), but are able to treat any condition affecting your ability to move and live well. We liaise with local doctors and refer on to other healthcare professionals and specialists as needed. If you are having difficulty moving or are experiencing any pain, simply call to see one of our experienced movement specialists. 250 638 1010

If you’ve been here recently for a new injury or condition, you may have noticed we’re doing things a bit differently! Each new assessment now begins with a 15min phone consult with one of our physios, at no extra cost. This allows your physio to obtain a thorough history of your current issue, screen for anything serious, and collect all necessary information and/or reports before you even arrive! This is followed by an in-person appointment, where your physio will perform... a complete examination of your injury, and any related areas. This new format meets our province’s recommendations for minimizing the amount of contact time necessary within the clinic, while also maintaining our standards for quality assessment and treatment. All of our physios are currently accepting new assessments. So if you have any health or mobility questions/concerns LET’S CHAT!

Who's participating in Terrace Off Road Cycling Association's 30 Day Challenge?? One of our physiotherapists (Natasha) just put together this list of tips to stay healthy while challenging yourself this month. There's a lot of good info here (download image for better view)!

We're nearing the end of our second week of resuming in-person services (and still perfecting our eye-smiling technique)! We just want to thank everyone for being so patient, respectful, and understanding as we settle into a new groove - it has been such a treat to see you again, and we hope you feel the same way. Let us know if you have any questions, comments, or feedback for us moving forward!... For now we are only accepting calls and emails for booking appointments with our physios (our online booking system will be launched soon - stay tuned) Enjoy the weekend and keep moving!

Here is a video from Leah Higgins...she is Andrew Trincao’s partner (remember he used to work with us?) and they now live in Ottawa! They are both sorely missed but cool to see Leah rockin’ Covid recommendations!

Before COVID rocked the world, one of our physios rocked some professional development and became certified in Gunn IMS (intramuscular stimulation). You may have heard of this method before it is a unique system of diagnosis and treatment developed by a physician in BC, which uses fine filament needles directed at tight muscle bands, that ultimately has an effect on the peripheral nerves (the nerves that innervate your muscles and skin and allow you to feel and move!) CRPR...C is the only facility west of Smithers to provide this gold standard method for safe and effective dry needling (which can only be performed by a trained physiotherapist or physician). Check out the link below for a video explanation and more info on the technique, along with what conditions this may be beneficial for. If you have questions or are interested in Gunn IMS, call 250 638 1010 or email [email protected] https://www.gunnims.com/what-is-gunn-ims-dry-needling.html

Feel Good Friday share. This is a moving short video of a close friend of one our physios. Chantelle sustained a life-altering accident while mountain biking in Valemount BC just one year ago. Its impressive and inspiring to see what shes accomplished within that time, against many odds. ... There are of course other aspects of a journey to recovery that we dont see, but we hope this gives you a glimpse of what is possible with a lot of hard work, hope, and support from family, friends, and community. Enjoy your weekend, everyone. and #belikechantelle

You won’t need much, but there are a few helpful things to consider having/implementing in order to make the most of your tele-rehabilitation session: - A desktop/laptop computer (preferred), or smart phone/tablet with fast and stable internet connection - Wear comfortable clothing please try to dress so that the area of interest may be exposed (observation is a clinical skill we rely on; we still need to be able to see you and watch you moving!) - Have enough physical spac...e for you to move around easily - If possible, try to create a temporary environment free of distraction/interruption (we do love seeing your pets and kids, but they don’t always make the best physio assistants ) - You may want to have a pen/paper or notepad handy to jot down any important information or insights that arise from your session - If you have an exercise or yoga mat, keep it handy your physio may demonstrate certain exercises with you (and will advise you on any other at-home equipment/self-care ideas) - Please be patient and arrive with an open mind we’ll work together through any barriers or obstacles that come up, and do what we can with what we have. We’ll be posting some tech tips soon and try to address any additional concerns. Thanks and we look forward to seeing you! Call 250 638 1010 or Book Online cedarriverphysio.janeapp.com

New to Telehealth/Telerehabilitation? It’s simpler than it sounds, and can be just as effective as in-person visits. We’ve compiled some helpful information to optimize your experience with us.... Starting with: What can you expect to receive in one of these sessions? - A thorough history-taking/subjective interview to discern a better understanding of the nature of your injury/concern - A complete assessment using visual observation, range of motion/strength testing, and other hands-off methods to determine the underlying cause of pain or dysfunction - 30-45min of uninterrupted time and attention to your needs (or longer if needed) - Education and guidance on how to self-manage your injury - Individualized treatment planning and exercise progressions (home programs will be provided where appropriate) - Focus on your specific goals/functional requirements (for work, sport, or daily living) - Liaising with other appropriate healthcare providers/professionals as necessary In essence, the same level of care, support, and expertise as face to face physiotherapy sessions, without the physical touch/contact (and hopefully not too many technical issues!). A message from Cooper Quinn, NSMBA President: Hi all, It's stressful out there. Believe me, I get it. And being out on the trails is a great way to try and rel...ax; it can also be a path to the Emergency Room, hospital, or clinic if you take a tumble. Clearly, this message hasn't meant enough coming from me, so let's hear from a doctor at the local hospital. We continue to see patients come into our operating rooms at Lions Gate Hospital with fractures from mountain biking injuries. While mountain biking is an activity that can be socially isolating, the injuries from this activity are using up precious medical equipment and operating room time that is desperately needed to help treat as many cancer patients as we can in the days before we are overwhelmed by COVID19 patients... - [emphasis mine]. If we want to keep trails open, we're all going to have to work together. And that means very low risk riding (I've been on my gravel bike for the past couple weeks), riding only with immediate housemates in small groups, and maintaining physical separation of at least 2 meters at all times. I promise the trails will be there on the other side of all this chaos. Let's make sure as many of us get there as we can, and the load on our healthcare system is minimal. We just can't risk recreational injuries right now. Thank you, and take care. We're all on this ride together. Cooper Quinn President of the NSMBA

CLINIC DOORS OPENING SOON! We are excited to announce our official, yet tentative (can we be officially tentative?) re-opening date for this coming Tuesday, May 26th! Our physios and staff have been working tirelessly this week to ensure our clinic facility and policies will adhere to current best practice guidelines for public safety. ... We are doing all that we can with the information available to us, and we simply ask for your continued patience as we assemble and implement the necessary resources and procedures. Our ultimate goal is always to get you moving again. But first we need to get this right! In the coming days we will be releasing more detailed information about what you can expect from us when our doors do open, what we have done, and how we can work together to keep our community strong and healthy. Well be seeing you soon!

Good morning, Terrace! Many of you may have watched the press conference with Premier Horgan and Dr. Bonnie Henry yesterday afternoon regarding BCs plan to "Restart". Physiotherapy is a part of Phase 2 of this plan. We are so excited at the prospect of seeing you in person again relatively soon! But we still need to be patient.... In the coming weeks, the province will announce more details as to an official start date (potentially May 19), as well as release specific guidelines and protocols to be implemented at the clinic. Cedar River Physio will do what is advised and necessary to ensure the safety of our staff and patients. We will keep you updated as we learn more, and we once again thank you for your understanding as we navigate through these changes. In the meantime, we are still offering Tele-rehabilitation services for those in need. Take care everybody! https://www2.gov.bc.ca//covid-19-provincia/bc-restart-plan

Thank you all for your patience and understanding this past month, as we have worked hard to pivot to an alternate mode of care, while still upholding the value and integrity of the services we provide. We are excited to announce that our clinic is virtually open, and we are now accepting clients for Telehealth/Tele-rehabilitation. Cedar River Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Centre owners and staff would like to reassure all patients that we are informed and proactive with regards to the Covid-19 virus. We are following the guidelines and recommendations of the World Health Organization, the BC Centre for Disease Control as well as our professional associations (CPA and PABC) and the College of Physical Therapists of BC. We have implemented the following prevention strategies: 1. Daily patient screeni...ng for travel history and symptoms. Patients are asked to stay at home if they are feeling unwell and to contact their doctor if their symptoms worsen. 2. Hospital grade virucidal cleaning of contact surfaces (beds, equipment) between patients. 3. All patients entering the clinic will be asked to remove outdoor footwear and wash their hands upon entering the clinic. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via phone or email. Above all, take care of yourself and others in our community. See more

Recent claims in the media that kinesio tape can prevent injury such as runner’s knee should not be believed, cautions La Trobe University researcher and APA me...mber Dr Christian Barton. Dr Barton, who recently co-authored Clinical Practice Guidelines on runner’s knee, says there is no scientific evidence that these products work and warns consumers not to buy into the hype. Many people will read these sort of articles and think that by using the tape they are protecting themselves from injury, but the reality is it does nothing to address potential underlying issues like overtraining or inadequate conditioning. #MediaRelease #runnersknee #choosephysio

Thank you for this @tightlippedpodcast. . Up to 1 in 4 North Americans with vaginas will experience chronic vaginal/vulvar pain, or pain with... sex, at some point in their life. . Despite this fact, their pain is commonly dismissed by some healthcare providers and other people with these kind of responses. . If you can relate to this, we want you to know youre not alone and your pain is valid. Working with a pelvic health physiotherapist can help you overcome your symptoms, and the voices that have wrongfully dismissed you. . We highly recommend that everyone takes the time to listen to @tightlippedpodcast, which bravely and beautifully tells the stories of people who experience chronic vulvar pain. . #pelvicpain #whensexhurts #sexshouldnothurt #painwithsex #chronicvularpain #vulvarpain #vaginismus #dyspareunia #tightlippedpodcast #pelvichealth #pelvichealthsolutions #phs #phs2020 #phsinthe6 #pelvichealthphysiotherapy #lifelonglearners See more
