Agriculture is many things and for our family, it’s our lifestyle, business, and passion. We’re proud to be able to share our love of agriculture and farming through photos, visits, and everything we grow and raise. Since today is Canada Ag Day, it’s perfect timing to be able to share with you one of our favourite parts of being a farmer our first calf of 2021, who was born yesterday! And then it’s us, the farmers.... Happy Canada Ag Day! #CdnAgDay
What should we name our first arrival? The letter this year is J and she’s a heifer calf.
Calving season has begun! Earlier today we welcomed our first calf of 2021 she is a healthy and very hungry Simmental cross heifer calf.
We hope you have an eggcellent Monday! The temperatures got so mild yesterday that it was the perfect day to get pictures of our eggs on the snow before it all disappears! The larger pointy speckled ones are laid by our turkeys and are being used for hatching more turkeys!
Happy Friday Everyone! Podcast listening is a regular on our farm and we all tune in while working on different things from feeding cattle in the tractor, washing eggs, or planting the garden. Charlotte had the pleasure of being a guest on one of our favourites, Wild Rose Farmer #TheRuralWomanPodcast earlier this month and the podcast dropped today! Katelyn chats with Charlotte about how Chatsworth Farm came to be, farm tours (virtual and in-person), farm events, and ag ev...ent management. You can look for the podcast anywhere you listen to your favourites or you can steam it on WildRoseFarmer.com and be sure to subscribe to hear more great episodes. There's also a special bonus episode for Patreon supporters. Thank you Katelyn for giving women in agriculture a place to share our stories - her podcast is a must-listen! https://wildrosefarmer.com///29/episode-87-chatswoth-farm/
The cold weather has not stopped the hens! They are laying so well right now and we have extra eggs available. We will be in Vermilion tomorrow (Friday). They are $5 a dozen and assorted colours.
Farming isn't always easy. Some days are perfect and some days are truly devastating. Farmers often feel intense anxiety and worry, and rates of stress, mental health issues, and suicide are much higher among people who work in the agricultural industry compared to any other occupation. Farmers rarely have separation between work and home, and aspects of farming can be very lonely, or you can feel alone. It can be difficult to ask for help and it may seem easier to work harde...r rather than find help. Farming is tough... but you don't have to be. Talk with your loved ones and if you see someone who needs help and support, be there for them. Reach out to those around you and connect with organizations like The Do More Agriculture Foundation and local health specialists. Today and everyday, let’s talk about our mental health and create a culture in our industry where all farmers are encouraged and empowered to take care of their mental wellbeing. #bellletstalkday
Thank you Jennifer Blair for the great writing and Alberta Farmer Express for sharing our virtual farm tour story. I can’t wait until calving starts so I can share again what started it all! bit.ly/3qO52jY
Thank you! Our online Holiday Mini Market happened on Saturday and what a fun day it was! The support for all of our vendors was just incredible and we can’t thank you enough for celebrating everything that’s locally made and produced. By shopping small and local, you’re ensuring that the small business economy keeps rolling, and most importantly, we did it safely! Many of your orders have already been delivered, and many more are on their way to you! We have our Edmonton del...ivery scheduled for this Saturday and we can’t wait to leave these amazing products on your doorstep! And thank you so much to Lisa MacGregor with Global Edmonton for chatting with us early on Saturday morning right before the market!
Welcome back to our Virtual Farm Tour. If you’ve missed any of our past farm tours, you can watch them here - https://www.chatsworthfarm.ca/virtual-farm-tours.html
Stuck inside on this chilly day? Join us for a Virtual tour of the farm at 11:30!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Holiday Mini Market today! The support was amazing and we can’t wait to host another market soon (hopefully in person)! The market might be over, but you can still support all of the vendors at anytime. Have a great evening and if you ordered anything from the market, please share pictures of what your purchased and tag us in them!
The beauty of hoar frost around the farm this morning!
Did you catch our exciting announcement on Saturday? We’re hosting a Holiday Mini Market at the farm next month and you won’t want to miss it! We’ve partnered with amazing local artists and producers to bring you a one-stop holiday shopping visit to the farm, where you’ll also be able to enjoy hot apple cider and visit with Lizzy! Registration in advance is required and this will be a COVID safe event, so please take a look at the Holiday Mini Market page at Eventbrite for a...ll the details. We’ll be featuring all the vendors leading up the Market on our IG Stories and will tag them here so you can find sneak peeks of what they might have at the market! We have gift certificates available just in time for the holiday season and they are the perfect gift for friends and family! We have printed certificates available and digital ones too! Use the certificates for meats, wheat, or even private virtual tours.
Charlotte took a trip down to Red Deer last Wednesday for the Thanks For Farming Tour where she got to catch-up with a few of her favourite ag event friends and check out the show! Farm shows were almost nonexistent this year but the TFFT team including our good friend Tegan at Crowd Design Inc. did an excellent job making everyone feel safe, giving us a day out to look at the latest and greatest machinery, as well as getting to listen to a great lineup of speakers covering everything from mental health in farmers to social media.
Post tour shenanigans! How many animals can you count?
It’s a winter wonderland on the farm!
