On this #wishwednesday during #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth, we take a look back at Vanessa's wish. Vanessa lives with a rare cancer that has required numerous surgeries, treatments and medical appointments. Despite the difficulties, Vanessa is continuing her studies and is facing her illness head-on and keeping positive. She is selfless and always looks out for others, offering support and help in any way she can. She is also very passionate about protecting the environment.... For her wish, she wanted to do something impactful and wished to help clean the ocean and improve the environment. Vanessa's wish was granted in 2019 when she travelled to Boca Raton, Florida where she worked with a team to help clean-up the plastic found in the ocean. Ava was diagnosed with leukemia in 2017 when she was 10 years old. She underwent four rounds of intensive chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. Throughout her treatment, Ava had to overcome many obstacles - weight loss, hair loss, fevers (which kept her in the hospital over Christmas) and seven months of IV antibiotics when the doctors discovered a fungus in her liver and lungs. With such a close-knit, big-hearted family, it was no surprise that her younger brother Coh...en wanted to help his big sister get through it all, and ended up being Ava's bone marrow donor. When Ava was given the news that her most heartfelt wish of going to Disney World could come true, it gave her something to look forward to and made the battle against the horrible illness a little bit easier. Ava loved every minute of her trip, but most of all she enjoyed being able to share her wish with her family - spending time together laughing, having fun and creating new memories to last a lifetime! Asked about why she wanted to fundraise and participate in Rope for Hope Toronto 2020, Ava told us, "my dad and I are participating in Rope for Hope to help grant wishes for kids like me! My wish was amazing, so I want to fundraise with the hope that every child with a critical illness can have the same opportunity I had." Dani is a sweet and joyous young girl who has energy for days and a smile that lights up the room. Dani was diagnosed with leukemia when she was three-years-old and underwent an intensive two and a half years of chemotherapy. During her long treatment journey, she dreamt of, one day, setting her toes in the ocean and playing in the sand. It was no surprise that her greatest wish was to fly somewhere far away and swim in blue water. The family spent a week in Punta Cana, splashing in the water and building castles in the sand. On World Lymphoma Awareness Day, we look back at Sofia’s wish. Sofia is a charismatic and adventurous teenager who loves soccer, dogs and sushi. She was diagnosed with lymphoma and underwent four rounds of chemotherapy ... she is now cancer-free! Being a self-proclaimed foodie and knowing that she wanted to visit some place tropical, Hawaii was a perfect place that she would enjoy. Sofia spent her days swimming, snorkeling, discovering Polynesian culture & trying new food. Sandra, Sofia’s mom, said, This wish allowed us to have a positive, fun, memorable experience on Sofia’s birthday! #WLAD2020 #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth #CCAM
