12B. Washington Cres Elliot Lake P5A 2L8 Chiropractic Corner. ... Travelling Tips for Reducing the risk of injury while travelling from Chiropractic Walk-In Care of Elliot Lake Over the past 40 years, I can’t tell you how many patients have related their injury to recent travel. Hauling suit cases into and out of a car, lifting their bags into overhead compartments, or just the awkward position of pulling bags to the check-in counter and putting them on or taking them off the carousels are movements that have resulted in their back pains. Are there ways to avoid these injuries or at least minimize the stress on our bodies while travelling ? The answer is yes! Now I didn’t say it would be free, but low back treatments can cost substantially more. The standard check-in bag can weigh up to 50 pounds. Now that’s fine if you’re a weight lifter, or in your early 20’s, however beyond that, it is just too heavy for most. For an extra $25, you can pack two 25 to 35 medium size bags, easily lifted and pushed. However, if that is not an option, let’s discuss 10 packing plans to lighten the load: 1 - keep the colour of your clothing to only two or three different ones. Then, packing several polyester or polyester spandex tops, which roll small, and are lightweight, to 1 pair of shorts, capris or trousers. 2 - only 2 sweaters, basic colours to match all outfits, usually white, cream or black. 3 - stay to 7 outfits in total, which are usually your favourites anyways, and do laundry after 7 days. 4 - pack only 1 bathing suit, cover-up and hat. 5 - reduce makeup to essentials. Use travel size shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, creams, etc. as they are lighter and pack into corners easily. Replace as needed. 6 - limit shoes to two pairs, neutral colours that match everything, and 1 small travel purse, wallet-type, to eliminate need for a separate wallet. 7 - avoid carry-on completely and travel with something that can easily fit under the seat compartment. Keep it light with only what you need for the flight and place your travel purse in it. 8 - roll clothes and pack small things into corners. 9 - use travel air-removal bags to maximize space in your bag. 10 - if you plan on shopping for new clothes, then bring only 2 or 3 outfits and wear new clothes you have purchased, thus not making your bag too heavy for the homeward trip. If all this fails, then bring a young, strapping weight lifter with you on you holidays and let them do all the lifting. Safe Travels! Dr. Elda Curphey, D.C.
