Back to school update: we are releasing our "AMDSB Back to School Plan" and a staggered entry plan. The attached letter is being sent to families. Details on our back to school planning page: https://www.amdsb.ca/apps/pages/BacktoSchool

CHSS Chronicle 19.06.2020

Back to school update (email sent to families): Good afternoon, Thank you to all of our parents for completing our pre-registration form indicating whether stu...dents would be returning in person or online in September. We are working our way through all of the information and providing principals with details about each school so that they can plan schedules, timetables and staffing. Regardless of whether students have chosen to return online or face to face, families can expect to receive communication from schools during the week of August 31st. As we continue to prepare for the return to school, we wanted to provide a brief update on some of the things that will be released in detail early next week. 1. A detailed AMDSB Back to School Plan will be distributed * It includes details about the many layered health and safety protocols and processes that are being put in place. 2. A staggered entry plan that begins Tuesday September 8 and progresses day by day until all students are in the school. * In order to slowly introduce the health and safety protocols to students, we will release a schedule for the Board that will stagger the start dates for all students. * The schedule will give you an idea of when your child will be starting school and then you will receive full details including start date, entry and dismissal times, entry and exit door, etc. directly from the school the week of August 31. 3. Further details about online and in person learning for secondary students. * The Ministry of Education has approved our proposal for a modified quadmestering system. Typically, students take 4 courses over one semester (September to January). This modified system would have students returning in person taking two courses (courses 1 and 2) for the first half of the semester (approximately first 12 weeks) and then switching to their second two courses (courses 3 and 4) for the second half of the semester. * The schedule will be: The first two courses will alternate weeks (course 1 for 1 week and course 2 for the next week) until mid November. Mid November, students will switch to courses 3 and 4. * Secondary students returning to online learning will participate in courses through scheduled, synchronous learning and these courses will be supplemented by AMDEC (Avon Maitland District E-learning Centre) courses. Families and students will receive communication during the last week of August. Staggered entry is a wonderful opportunity for us to teach students about our new safety protocols and procedures and to ensure everyone can achieve optimal health and safety. We understand that parents are waiting for more information. We are still receiving information daily from the Ministry of Education as it is finalized. Please know that we have brought in additional supports and are working tirelessly to finalize important details. We anticipate being able to release many details next week and the following week, prior to school opening. Please remain patient and know that we will be ready to welcome your children back in September, whether it be in person or online. The information that we will provide next week will answer many of your outstanding questions but please know that we are continuing to monitor our [email protected] email address so if you have specific questions or concerns, please send them to that address. Updates also are posted on our back to school planning website: amdsb.ca/apps/pages/BacktoSchool
