Cigar Studio 02.04.2021

25 years ago Litto Gomez founded La Flor Dominicana cigars. Fast forward to today, his cigars are a top choice among enthusiasts looking for powerful cigars. Most of his blends are not for the squeamish, and some one once said of Litto, his cigars are a candy store for full flavor smokers who enjoy strong cigars. I think you get the picture. Unique in taste, shapes and character, his cigars have received top scores in every cigar magazine and rating editorials, includi...ng Cigar Aficionado’s #1 Cigar of the Year in 2016 the Andalusian Bull was truly that weighing in at mammoth 6 1/5 x 64. To help celebrate their 25 years in business, Gomez created his 25th Anniversary cigar no fancy name either. First unveiled at the 2019 IPCPR, it has just now made its entry into Canada. That and 7 other LFD blends are featured in the shop today, fully dressed and not a PP in sight. Connecticut shade smokers, take the day off, or if you smoke one of these, make sure you are close to the couch. Cigar Studio. Also Celebrating 25 Years.

Every 5 years we release a new Pipe Tobacco to help us celebrate our anniversary, rotating between aromatics and naturals. Our 25th release might be our most exciting yet. Starting with ribbon cuts of Virginia, Burley and Black Cavendish, our tobacco is then cased with a healthy dose of vanilla and custard. The result is a rich and creamy smoke which joins the other 40 plus pipe tobacco’s you will find at the shop. And the room notes are ridiculous. We thought about naming it something cute but after testing it and having our core guys try it, they kept coming back claiming your 25th Anniversary Blend is awesome. So who needs cute? May we introduce you to our 25th Anniversary Blend. $35 pouch. Cigar Studio. 5 Anniversary blend Since 1996.

Two side bars to our post on Oliva Cigars. First, props to House of Horvath for securing this top shelf Nicaraguan brand.Talk about a pile on My Father, Casa Magna, Flor De Las Antillas, Joya d Nicargua,Did I forget one?Secondly, the very first cigar we sold at Cigar Studio was a Nicaraguan brand named Segovia. What has that got to do with the return of Oliva cigars into Canada? Read on to find out. It took three generations and two revolutions to makeOliva cigars....The story begins in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba, where Melanio Oliva, the family patriarch was a tobacco grower in the 1880’s. Two generations of tobacco growers later, by the time of the Castro revolution in 1959, Gilberto Oliva stopped growing tobacco and left the county, travelling the world in search of tobaccos that could reproduce the distinctive flavor of Cuban cigars.Because Nicaraguan soil and climate were very similar to Cuba's and because many Cuban growers had settled there already - plus given his family’s bone a fides as tobacco growers, he settled there and quickly became known for extremely high yields. But in 1976 history repeated itself and the Sandinistas seized all of Gilberto's property, forcing him to flee to Panama. Several hurricanes and political upheavals later, Gilberto became head of production for Nestor Plasencia Sr.'s factory in Honduras (where Segovia cigars were being made),and in 1994, the first "official" Oliva cigars rolled off the line. But a return to Nicaragua beckoned and in 1995 he opened a factory in Ocotal. They are now headquartered in Esteli. Oliva fans know that some of their top cigars are named for the family’s most influential members, Melanio and Gilberto. If I am not mistaken, there are over 15 blends in the Oliva portfolio, and Cigar Studio is pleased to showcase 4 of these today; the Serie V Melania (including the 2014 Cigar of the Year, Serie V Melanio Figurado), the Serie V, the Serie G, and the Nub. Everything HoH brought in, we brought in.Enjoy! Cigar Studio. It Started With Segovia In 1996.

The next two weeks will see the return of some of our customers’ favorite Nicaraguan cigar brands; Oliva will be on our shelves later today, and next week we are expecting (fingers crossed) Perdomo to return to its rightful place in our humidor. So for now , let’s enjoy two other classic premium Nicaraguan brands, both of which hail from Drew Estates; Liga Pravada and Undercrown. Featuring 2 blends from each, we start with the Liga Pravada No 9. Meaning private blend giv...en its original small batch production intent was not for resale, but for staff’s private humidors desiring full flavor, rich and complex cigars, and total perfection with each cigar puff. Not to be outdone, is the Feral Flying Pig from Liga’s Unico Serie. An evolution of the Liga Pravada line, this line contains super premium, extremely limited, and rare delicious cigars, maybe the epitome of Drew Estates creative use of different tobacco blends. The Undercrown brand was born as a tribute to the Drew Estate factory workers who go unheralded for the master pieces they create. The maduro, the first blend created for this brand, is a medium to full body cigar providing an inherent sweet finish given its Otapan Negro Último Corte wrapper. On the other end of the flavor and strength spectrum is the Undercrown Shade, providing a lush smooth flavor owing to its Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, and fillers from the DR and Nicaragua. There you have it. Great brands from Drew Estates, to be enjoyed today while waiting for the arrival of their country cousins. Cigar Studio. Premium Cigars and Accessories Since 1996.
