Thank you to our friends Midland Civitans!
On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we recognize Canadians, and people around the world, who live with a disability. Our neighbours and friends, colleagues and family, every day they defy stereotypes and overcome stigma to redefine what it means to thrive. Even as people with disabilities lead the way forward, many still face discrimination, exclusion, and barriers. Today, we recommit ourselves to building a more inclusive country and world based on ...equality and respect for everyone’s human rights. --The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, December 3, 2020 The annual observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was proclaimed in 1992 by United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. In 2020, the UN’s theme is Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World. The World Health Organization (WHO) further supports this theme by underlining the importance of fostering an inclusive culture and responding to the urgent needs of people with disability in all aspects of society, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. https://www.un.org//obser/day-of-persons-with-disabilities

"One Day. Your Way" Have you got your plans made to support Sunday's Terry Fox in the Heart of Georgian Bay? We can do it #togetherfromhome . More details below. #tryliketerry
#tbt Here we are, six months on in the quest to keep our supported individuals healthy, safe, and engaged, no matter what. When we produced this thank you video in early spring, I don’t think any of us could have anticipated that we’d be still here using every means of preventing Covid-19 from impacting those we serve. I remain so grateful for your partnership, diligence and commitment to the individuals we support. Your hard work and heart continues to ensure their safety and that of the extended CLH community. My sincere thanks to each and every one of you for your tremendous dedication Dean (Dean Johnson, CEO)
How is it already almost the end of August? For #flashbackfriday we’re highlighting some of the wonderful moments and activities we have enjoyed #togetherathome through our CLH Virtual Program, which has been supported by CLH Foundation and an entire community of CLH supporters!
At Sulky Drive they stay pretty busy #togetherathome and each resident has plenty of interests to make the days go by quickly, so it was just last week that they had time to make their Summer 2020 tie dye shirts! The shirts look great and so do their makers! Have a wonderful week, everyone!
Earlier this month, Raymond Roebuck, a member of our CLH community, passed away quite unexpectedly. Ray had been associated with CLH since the late 1980s and for the past decade was a resident of Jeanne St. In more usual times, we would be able to gather in person to share memories and pay tribute. That isn’t possible right now, so with permission from Raymond’s sisters and the staff quoted here, we would like to take this opportunity to publicly honour Raymond and share with you what a wonderful person he was.
We persuaded Kevin Mateff and Martha Rushton of Midland Home Hardware Building Centre to let us take their photo so we could publicly thank them for the huge su...pport they have given to our "Backyard Project" . This project has been possible because of the wonderful support of donors, sponsors and supporters of our 2020 "Red Carpet Event" -- the funds raised in February are helping make a big difference now. Keeping our supported individuals healthy and well during the pandemic has meant that they have spent many months being #togetherathome. The Backyard Project was initiated by CLH Foundation to ensure that each house would also have a comfortable outdoor space for residents to enjoy the fine weather, eat together outside, and have shelter from the sun, the rain, and the mosquitoes! With each house's wishlist in hand and the generous help of Midland Home Hardware, we have been able to ensure that all of the CLH homes have received what they need for everyone to be #togetheroutsideathome. Thank you to our "Red Carpet Evening" supporters for their impact on the CLH community, and thank you to Kevin and Martha for their hands-on help in getting this done!
Good news to share - with a shout out to Rick for being part of the cheque presentation with Rotary President Amanda.
Thank you to Michael Jacques, author of Can't Read, Can't Write, Here's My Book. for his amazing online presentation to our CLH community this morning. Michael's story is an inspiring one, and he helps us all to recognize our own opportunities and make the most of them! CLH Foundation was delighted to be able to participate in supporting everyone's experience today. Thanks also to Michael's dad, Marcel. #togetherathome
