Meet the winner of the Name That Building contest! A talented writer, Lucia (age 11) grew up in Canal Flats and has been published three times through Polar Expression's national student contests. She wrote this about Ponderosa Place: Ponderosa pine are predominant in Canal Flats. Ponderosa pines are survivors, their strong bark almost repels fire, making them hardy trees. Their seeds need fire to grow. Thus the name ponderosa represents the strong spirit and new beginnings.... Our town will power through all the times that challenge us, like the majestic ponderosa pines. When she grows up, she wants to be an author, a Disney animator, or code games. Lucia's favourite things about Canal Flats are how friendly the people are and how quiet, calm, and laid back the town is. She says that she would love to see Canal Flats grow in the next ten years so that should could keep meeting new people and making new friends.

Please close cattle gates! Across the Columbia Valley, ranchers have cattle gates in place to keep their cattle safe and to keep them from roaming. Our ranchers work hard to share grazing areas with local wildlife, avoiding overgrazing and keeping the land healthy for all. When you are out enjoying public property in this beautiful area, please ensure that you close and secure any gate you open. When cattle get out, this disrupts the ecosystem balance we work hard to achieve. It also creates a risk for our cattle and a challenge for our ranchers. Please close the gates and enjoy the outdoors.
