Over the past eight months, people who have an intellectual disability, their families and service agencies have stepped up to the challenge of COVID-19. The pr...ovincial government has taken important steps to lend a hand, including the implementation of Pandemic Pay, changes to Passport funding, the COVID-19 Residential Relief Fund (CRRF), and emergency orders that have provided crucial staffing flexibility. Despite this, Ontario’s developmental services sector faces a precarious near future. Community Living Ontario’s pre-budget brief offers concrete steps the provincial government can take to address short-term issues, support the health of people who utilize the services of front-line agencies, and set a path for the future that will allow more people who have an intellectual disability to get the services and supports they need to achieve a better quality of life: bit.ly/35GBUSH
Words of encouragement from Eppi: Whenever you are stressed, or tired, it is critical to take a few moments to self-nurture. Once your cup is empty, there isn’...t anything in it left to give. Please try to fill that cup before trying to pour from it. A few moments of regular self-care can improve your mood, efficiency, happiness, relationships, health, and work quality. Often, creative solutions to pressing issues or problems can present themselves to you during that down time. Stepping aside to rest is also helpful, because, when done mindfully, this can provide a chance for others to grow their skills, too. Remember that you are part of a community of people; you never have to go it alone! Reach out to those you care about. Reach out to others who can help. Rest. Take a break. How Eppi is taking care of her wellbeing during this pandemic: - Exercise and walks in nature - Creating art - Gardening - Baking yummy treats and cooking healthy meals - Watching movies - Listening to music - Meditation - Keeping in touch with others, virtually sharing funny stories, words of comfort, and venting when needed!
