Basement reno update! Glance as you pass by or stop and take a look. Introducing "the gallery nook"! The landing as you enter into the finished basement area is a perfect spot to feature or display some of my favourite pieces of art and decor under the spotlight of potlights. I love metallic art, and these elements combined with texture and neutral tones is inviting and soothing to the soul.

Basement Reno Update: Our family tree! I've always admired and love watching the cycled revolution of what I call my umbrella tree. If anyone knows the real name, please do tell . I could consider boycotting the backyard if I lost this tree but we did lose a limb of it. Desperate not to depart, I turned it into a piece of art! Combined with Del's love of natural wildlife settings and a wood carving of a bird now propped above that branch, shining with the light from the cozy wall-mounted fireplace, it perfectly illustrates the "family tree" artwork treasured from one of my favourite and sadly departed home decor stores, Pier 1 Imports. Beautiful to see when descending into our now FINISHED BASEMENT!!!!

Basement reno update! Design choices...old meets new, rug 1 or rug 2? Reusing some existing furniture can create challenges especially when you fall for an oversized sectional in a different colour. My task was to find an area rug to create a bridge between a retro black coffee table set and the new deep chocolate-brown comfy spot. The good thing is that area rugs are works of art and come in an unlimited amount of colour mixes, patterns and textures. And finding the right size for the space is also equally important. Here are my finalists and the ultimate winner! What I loved about my selection is that it was so unique and freestyle, different textures and really had a mind of its own while incorporating all the colours needed. Love it!

Basement Reno update! And so this is the current vibe for the cozy 3pc functioning bathroom. Just need to source the glass for the shower stall and let the water fall!

Basement reno update! The chore of doors! Ok so, little did I know how hollow the inside of most doors are. Check it out. We trimmed basically all 3 interior doors to custom fit the openings in the basement. Cut, refit base and then pray. All good with a little patience, determination, semi-gloss and sleek black hardware. Good thing I used to love installing door knobs as a teen, made for a quick task . And what about the trim work done by Mr.DIY?!
