Cool Wave Hvac 04.10.2020

My latest job, replace two 20 year old fan coils with new more powerful and efficient ones. When you work alone you need to be clever and come up with solutions. In order to mount those fan coils to the wall, I built a wood platform and placed the unit on it. Once the unit is mounted I take the platform apart. Another job well done.

Coolwave does residential condo heat pumps and fan coils of any kind. I service 4 buildings in one block in downtown Ottawa.

What was the architect and engineer thinking? It would seem they have never had to service one of these hybrid heat pumps. I have to take these units apart to get them out for service. This adds significant cost to a service call. Every unit in that vertical row is just like this one.

Hvac preventative Maintenance is often overlooked. The wait until it breaks way of doing things is not the way to go. It is far more cost effective to have regular maintenance inspections done on your hvac equipment. The benefits of regular hvac preventative maintenance are: - increased efficiency and energy savings ... - longer life of your equipment - avoiding expensive repairs - increased reliability - better for the environment A blocked condenser coil like the one in the picture can lead to compressor failure, a job like that can easily cost $1500 to $2000. A blocked fan inlet like in the other picture can lead to motor failure, a $600 to $800 dollar job. Preventative Maintenance is not a scam, it actually works. It does not guarantee your unit will not break down but it gives you your best chance of avoiding costly break downs. Especially avoidable ones.

Here are a few challenging Dectron indoor pool dehumidification system installations. Both were very challenging. Moving 1000lbs of awkward sized machines requires innovation and creativity. These challenging jobs scare me and somehow I love the challenge. The main worry is the safety of the people helping me at the time. Somehow I always manage to make it work.

This was a new installation in The Glebe, an extremely difficult installation due to the narrow staircase. The pool room was in the basement and the unit was ti be installed in a small closet. We rose to the challenge and had a very happy customer in the end!

This is a job I did at a hotel indoor pool customer of mine. The electronic controller kept failing due to the corrosive environment in the pool mechanical room. I had an electrician run control wire from the unit to a less corrosive environment. Once he was done it was my job to relocate the controller and identify and connect all those wires one by one. The job was a big success, no more corrosion issues and a happy customer.

This is a commercial steam humidifier replacement I did earlier this year. The old Nortec humidifier was 30 years old. I hope this new one lasts that long!

This is a job I did last year. I purchased a used Dectron from a gentleman from L'Orignal, he was converting his indoor pool room to a family room. I sold it to a gentleman in Ottawa to replace his 30 year old unit. This job was a challenge. We used my stairlift dolly to lower the unit into the basement around a very tight stairwell. The old unit was moved out in pieces. It turned out very well.

Here is a Dectron replacement Coolwave hvac is doing in downtown Ottawa. Received unit at 9:00 am. Used my stairlift dolly to lower the Dectron to the first landing of the stairwell. Then we cut the metal Bannister and assembled the gantry we rented. Had to build two plywood platforms on either side for the gantry wheels. Next we hooked up the Dectron with slings and straps and lowered the Dectron to the bottom of the stairwell. Next we used the dolly to get the unit into the mechanical room. A successful job and it was done safely and without injury. More photos to come as we finish this job.
