BREAKING: INDIGENOUS FRONTLINES CALL 2 ACTION COAST TO COAST // Nov 23-29, 2020 The Indigenous people of the land have been under attack ever since the first ...invaders came to our shores. We have been defending our lands and protecting our waters for generations. We have never stopped and we never will. Our laws demand that we uphold our sacred responsibilities, not only for ourselves, but the next seven generations. Our fight and love for our land and our people connect all Indigenous people. From coast to coast we are united. We must stand in solidarity and defend our relatives that are being attacked by these invaders. Invaders that intend on destroying our land and water for profit and impeding our right to be free people. As Indigenous grassroots people, on the frontlines, we call on you to join us in solidarity from Nov 23-29 as a national call to action to support and respect our sovereignty. We call on you to demand justice for our people, to hold the companies committing acts of genocide accountable through direct action and rallies where you are. We are one, we are united, and we will fight, together. #WeAreOne #LandBack #CoastToCoast #DefendTheLand #WildAndFree #BurnDownColonialism

Every October, Children’s Aid Societies across Ontario raise awareness about the important role that individuals and communities play in supporting vulnerable c...hildren, youth, and families through the provincial Dress Purple Day campaign. The campaign is more important than ever, since the COVID-19 pandemic has created additional stressors for families, and in some cases has increased risk for the well-being and safety of vulnerable children, youth. This year, Dress Purple Day will take place on Tuesday, October 27, 2020. Today our agency attended, both in person and virtually, a powerful ceremony that honored Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) Day by learning about the 15 Calls for Justice that are directly tied to the work that we do every day in child protection.

Today is Missing And Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls - Red Dress Day. A day of recognition and respect for all of our ‘Stolen Sisters’. This day is to bring attention to the epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. In our work at CAS we must acknowledge the role that the child welfare system has had in this violence towards Indigenous women and girls. We must work to change this by addressing the racism, violence against Indigenous women and genocide that continues to exist in this country and our communities. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEWnSdJp1Do&feature=youtu.be

Today, September 30th, we wear our Orange shirt to honour Indian Residential School Survivors and remember those children that did not make it home. In celebrating this day we remember Canada’s dark history of racism and work to ensure that this never happens again. #orangeshirtday

Children's Aid Society of SD&G 19.06.2020

#OrangeShirtDay is a day to Remember and Honour Indigenous children who attended Residential Schools. It is also a Day to Inspire Action to improve relationship...s with Indigenous Peoples today. Orange Shirt Day began in William’s Lake British Columbia and was started by Stswecem'c Xgat'tem First Nation Elder, Phyllis Jack Webstad who had her new orange shirt taken away on her first day at the St. Joseph Mission Residential School when she was six years old. Since 2013, Canadians of all backgrounds have been wearing orange shirts to acknowledge the experiences of Indigenous students who attended Residential Schools across Canada and to ensure that every child matters in future generations. The movement calls for every Canadian to wear an orange shirt on September 30 in the spirit of healing and Reconciliation. This date was chosen because it is the time of year when Indigenous children were taken from their homes to go to Residential Schools. To purchase a shirt and support the Orange Shirt Society (Orange Shirt Day - Every Child Matters), please visit: http://www.orangeshirtday.net/en/cad/category/18754
