MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT REHABILITATION UNDERSTANDING YOUR RIGHTS ! By: Diane Fry,PT,BSC.PT,MCPA Personal injuries from car accident trauma are common, and many times severe. Motor Vehicle Accidents may often result in lost work time and cause difficulties in dealing with day-to-day responsibilities and leisure time activities. After you've been injured in a crash, it's vital to get Physiotherapy as quickly as possible. Many times, the effects of an accident can be delayed or a...ppear subtle. Seek medical advice as quickly as possible to ensure you are adequately treated and protected for the future. How do I proceed with my MVA rehabilitation claim? How do you proceed if your injuries are related to a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA)? First inform your car insurance provider of the accident and any injuries that you have sustained. Regardless of who was at fault for the accident, your insurance provider is responsible for making health and rehabilitation services available to you. Once you have a health claim initiated with your insurance provider, you can proceed to make an appointment for physiotherapy to book an initial assessment. In this session your Registered Physiotherapist will assess your injuries, discuss with you a treatment plan and collect all the necessary information to complete the appropriate MVA insurance forms. In most cases treatment is also initiated at this time and follow-up appointments will be made, taking your schedule into consideration. In Ontario, according to The Insurance Act, the cost for medical rehabilitation care due to a motor vehicle accident will be covered by your insurance company either through Auto Insurance or Extended Health Care Insurance, if applicable. You must first use your Extended Health Care coverage before Auto Insurance coverage kicks in. An experienced physiotherapy administration team will often assist patients and help them navigate the billing maze, offer services in direct billing and the handling of complicated paperwork with the insurance company. In Ontario, automobile insurance is regulated by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, a regulatory agency of the Ministry of Finance. Physiotherapy Clinics must be officially licensed under FSCO to be able to do direct billing for MVA claims. Before starting treatments, clients should always ensure the clinic is a Licensed Provider to prevent major headaches at the time of billing. In Ontario you have a right to choose the Physiotherapist of your choice even if the Insurance Company makes another recommendation. Before choosing your Physiotherapist, it is recommended you check with the Physiotherapy clinic of your choice to ensure they can handle your particular injury. "Re-opening today The face of Physiotherapy has changed for now and it's not just the mask that must be worn, today Diane will see her first patients she will be working alone, for the time being, Colin and Tammy our secretary will come later, Bill may be in his office. All patients will be booked 1 hr apart to allow for proper cleaning, all patients will be pre-screened as she makes your appointment. You will be required to wear a mask during your appointment. If you do ...not have one the clinic has adequate supplies and even has hand made cloth ones for sale "to active Patients only." If you phone the clinic while a Patient is there Diane will not answer the phone, she will call you back between patients Please leave a message.
