Hello Everyone! Our next GMM is scheduled for this Saturday, September 19th at 9:30am. We will be holding it at the Union Hall (585 Wentworth Street East, Unit #32, Oshawa) with the following safety protocols in place. Masks will be required, hand sanitizer will be available, disinfectant will be used before and after the meeting on all touch surfaces, screening will occur before entering, names and phone numbers will be taken for contact tracing, we will have people spaced for distance in the chairs and if there happens to be more than 50 people in attendance, we will open the back gate and space people outside as well. The agenda and minutes will go out later this week via email. If anyone isn't on the CUPE 2936 email list and wants to be added, please send your email to [email protected]. Thanks!

At this Saturday's GMM (see post from yesterday for details), there will be two units holding elections. They will happen from 9:30-10:00am during the unit meetings. Unit 01 is holding elections for Stewards. Unit 02 is holding elections for their EAP and Health and Safety committees. Agenda and minutes will go out this week via email with the rest of the planned items.

A CUPE 2936 member Amanda Bradley was featured on CBC News last night as the Front Line Hero of the Day! She is regularly one of the day program staff at Community Living Ajax, Pickering & Whitby but is currently working in one of their group homes during the pandemic. Amanda also has been using her talented voice to brighten up the days of staff, supported individuals and community members during this hard time by posting weekly concert videos. Her picture holding up the Include Us sign was also featured in the news clip. Thank you Amanda for all your hard work and for going the extra mile, and thank you to all our members for continuing to show that you are essential and that #DevelopmentalServicesMatter

CUPE members have been on the frontline fighting precarious employment for many years now and are all-too-familiar with the challenges of this fight. A new study by Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives shows that jobs are becoming precarious across all sectors, including professionals and full-time workers.

National President Mark Hancock joined Hamilton's Labour Day parade yesterday and warned Ontario workers that they can expect tough times ahead under new Premier Doug Ford's regime: "We should celebrate today, but we need to be ready to fight tomorrow."
