A border collie on a working farm seldom finds himself in trouble. They have a phenomenal ability to notice the smallest changes, the drive to eye stock and n...ip even the meanest of sheep. Yet, over 80 percent of clients we see with border collies in urban environments owners complain of chasing kids, cars, and being overly reactive to things in their environment... The traits that they are finding themselves struggling with are the very traits that sheepherders have bred for hundreds of years into the breed. The same goes for huskys.. seldom do we see owners running their huskies miles daily struggling with keeping them secure in their homes or destructive behaviors. Yet, the largest complaints we hear about these breeds are the very traits that make them incredibly suitable for the job they were bred for. Seldom do I hear a person who purchased a cane corso for estate protection complain about the steady, assertive and self assured guardian they have. As many of you know the number one breed we work with is cane corsos and yet we recieve calls almost daily of shocked owners when there 8 month old cane corso doesn't allow a guest into the home. The traits that a been selected in our dog breeds for centuries are most often the same behaviors that are reported to be "nuisance behaviors" in the home. This is why many breeders who are worth their weight don't let their puppy buyers select their own puppy. Instead they ask the puppy buyer what is it you are wanting in your pet. If they are wanting a soft family companion then they may select what might be considered a "washout" for the breed. If you are looking for a dog to be a family companion and a sport dog they may select an "average dog." If you are looking for a working dog they will select the most serious puppy. An incident of human contact with a raccoon that tested positive for rabies is confirmed in Charlotte County. Two children were in contact with a raccoon that w...as acting abnormally docile. The exposed individuals have been treated appropriately. Anyone that has direct contact with a bat or a suspected rabid animal in the form of a touch, bite or scratch should contact Tele-care 811 immediately. If you suspect your pet had contact with a rabies infected wild animal, please contact your local veterinarian for proper advice and follow up. Pet owners should ensure their pets are kept up to date on their rabies vaccination. Quick update! Due to changing circumstances, there is 1 spot open for the morning puppy prep classes! Starting Friday, November 15th. The class is held at 11:30 AM, for puppies under two years! If anyone is interested in grabbing the spot, send me a message. :)

We have had two confirmed cases of leptospirosis in Charlotte County. We are now going to be hosting basic obedience classes in addition to the puppy prep! This class will be for dogs 2yrs and above, and teaching more advanced manners such as heel, retrieve, hand signals, proofing behaviors learned as a puppy, how to communicate and understand your dog, and more! There will be a 9:00am class and a 3:00pm class! Classes will be small, so limited spots available!

So glad to see Shelters are becoming aware of this! Many people take puppies to daycares, and dog parks to socialize them, and then unfortunately still end up with dog-aggressive dogs. The more educated you are when bringing home a new puppy, the better!

So heres a quick rundown of whats up! - Focus Work & Leash Training: Learning to walk nicely on leash, and how to focus on the handler, even in busy, distracting places! - Stay & Leave It: A MUST HAVE for puppy pawrents! Teaching your pup to stay, even when something tasty drops on the ground, and preventing counter surfing!... - Confidence Building & Trust: If your dog lacks confidence, theyre going to be barky, jumpy, and shy around strangers! Were going to have a whole class dedicated to helping build your dogs confidence in you, using inflatable peanuts and balance boards! - Recall: Maybe the most in demand trick, coming back when called, even in a busy environment! - Equipment Included: So you dont have to worry about forgetting something at home, everything will be provided on site. Gauging interest on trick training and enrichment classes! They would be week by week, and non committal, so you could come to multiple classes, leave early, come late, or just see it going on and walk in! Price would only be around $10-$15 per hour long lesson. Whos interested??

Luna, 3yr old Staffordshire terrier. She almost lost her life at the Miami-Dade kill shelter.
