Many people who have stove top fires are injured when they try to put out the fire. But there's an easy way to prevent these injuries, and to prevent the fire from spreading. Every time you cook, keep a proper fitting pot lid and an oven mit nearby. If the pot starts on fire, put the mitt on, grab the lid and carefully slide it over the burning pot to smother the fire. Turn off the stove.... Leave the lid on the pot and do not move it until it is completely cool so the fire doesn't restart. Never Throw water on a fire in a pot. This can result in the fire spreading. The video attached shows what can happen when water is thrown on a fire in a pot. Do not try this at home. Remember, if you have a fire in a pot. Put a lid on it and turn off the stove.
