Green Gables is a must-visit with great local wines and Marie is an excellent entertaining host.
Congrats to North Grenville’s 2019-2020 Civic Awards Recipients for their outstanding contributions to the community. They include Barbara Lacelle (Kemptville ...Youth Musical Theatre Company), @Jess Wilson, Nick Charman, the Kemptville District Community Association and Brian Wilson. While not all 5 could join us at Council this evening, we look forward to celebrating their accomplishments in the New Year. MEDIA RELEASE: NORTH GRENVILLE, ON Earlier this evening, North Grenville’s Council presented the 2019 and 2020 Civic Awards to individuals and groups who showed outstanding service to the community. The Civic Awards program is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions and accomplishments of North Grenville’s residents, businesses and organizations, said Mayor Nancy Peckford. I would like to extend my thanks to everyone who took the time to nominate an individual or organization. North Grenville is very fortunate to have such caring and committed volunteers who want to make our community stronger. The 2019 and 2020 Civic Awards were awarded to the following organizations and individuals: ARTS AND CULTURE (Adult, Age 26-55): Barbara Lacelle For over 20 years, Ms. Lacelle has committed countless hours, limitless energy and dedication to the Kemptville Youth Musical Theatre Company, an organization that enables young people (aged 12 to 18) of Kemptville and area to take to the stage and develop musical and performing arts interests. With an infection for fun and an inclusive attitude, Ms. Lacelle and her team have brought over 25 top notch productions to life for the community, from the very first Oklahoma!, to Oliver, Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan, A Christmas Carol, Grease, Shrek, Legally Blonde, Newsies and so many more. Ms. Lacelle has created an amazing and inspiring production company and we thank you for the many years of dedication in bringing joy to the community with your love of the arts. RECREATION, SPORT AND LEISURE: (Adult, Age 26-55): Nick Charman For exemplary volunteerism and leadership in fitness in North Grenville through community involvement, sport and fundraising efforts. Mr. Charman has spent countless hours volunteering his time as a coach with Kemptville Warrior’s basketball, fitness leader, fundraising and as an overall health, wellness, and fitness advocate within the community. He is a leader and positive role-model to those around him, teaching life-long benefits of an active lifestyle, the importance of teamwork and building each other up. Mr. Charman is employed full-time with the Canadian Armed Forces and is currently deployed overseas, and yet always finds time to ensure he is involved in his community. *Mr. Charman was not able to attend the ceremony and will be presented with his award at a later date. EXEMPLARY WORK IN THE COMMUNITY (Adult, Age 26-55): Jess Wilson For her work raising funds and awareness on breast cancer, and was the driving force behind the Barbell for Boobs fundraiser that raised over $5,000 for breast cancer research. Ms. Wilson actively brought together many local businesses to support the fundraising efforts through donations, which helped bring the community together in this successful online event. This was all done on her own initiative with great effort to co-ordinate the event and ensure it was COVID-safe and conducted under public health guidelines during the pandemic. EXEMPLARY WORK IN THE COMMUNITY (Senior, Age 56 and older): Brian Wilson Mr. Wilson has given so much of his time to the community over the years. Members of the community may recognized his voice as the announcer of the Kemptville 73 Jr A Hockey Team. Mr. Wilson has been an integral part of youth activities in the community for over three decades. He is an advocate for children and youth in recreation through bowling, lacrosse, hockey and Cub Scouts, and has been present in the community for many fundraising efforts. His community advocacy and pride shine through in all his efforts. Mr. Wilson plays an integral part of our community and we are incredibly lucky to have him guide the children and youth of the next generations. Residents may have also seen him double as Santa Claus in Kemptville over the years, bringing joy and laughter to young and old alike! *Mr. Wilson was not able to attend the ceremony and will be presented with his award at a later date. EXEMPLARY WORK IN THE COMMUNITY (Group): Kemptville District Community Association This relatively new volunteer group was able to pivot in the early days of the pandemic to develop a dynamic and exclusively virtual Canada Day event in partnership with neighbouring community associations, the local radio station, and the Business Improvement Association. The all-day event showcased local talent, engaged the community via an elaborate community scavenger hunt and encouraged residents and businesses to decorate their homes and storefronts in style. North Grenville’s diverse culture was celebrated, and spirits lifted during a very stressful time. Wendy Embleton and Samantha Rivet-Stevenson accepted the award on behalf of the Association. On behalf of Council, we would like to extend our congratulations to all the award winners and acknowledge the significant role they play in helping define the caring culture that makes up North Grenville, added Mayor Peckford. The Municipality of North Grenville established the Civic Awards Program to recognize and honour the selfless efforts and dedication of outstanding individuals and groups who volunteer in service to our citizens and community. Since the Program began in 2009, more than 40 individuals and 7 groups have been recognized for their efforts.
Community groups & local businesses in North Grenville are working very hard to make sure families and seniors don’t go without over the Christmas holiday. Pl...s consider donating to the Kemptville Salvation Army’s Christmas kettle, the Knights of Columbus 5333 - Kemptville or thé House of Lazarus. Today, Walmart in Kemptville is matching all donations to the Salvation Army Kettle drive. From 7am to 6pm your donations go twice as far. 97.5 Moose FM will be on site capturing all the action! Our local @OPP detachment will also be overseeing a food drive from 9am to 1pm in the Walmart parking lot. Thanks as always for being a generous and caring community, North Grenville. I am so pleased that we can do this right at the end of 2020 because it’s been an incredibly challenging year, and community organizations of all kinds have risen to the challenge. - Mayor Nancy Peckford.
Face behind the Mask: Mary Mary is our always bright and energetic patient registration clerk. Her beautiful smile puts every patient at ease as soon as they wa...lk through the doors of the Assessment Centre. She kindly come to us to help serve her community in this time of need from her full-time position at the Municapality of North Grenville. We are incredibly lucky to have her as part of the team. Her energy and positive attitude fills the centre with joy each day. Meet Mary! I have had an extensive career in administration and customer service and truly love what I do. I believe a smile and compassion for the people we serve can change someone’s day. I enjoy travelling to a sunny destination in the winter (Hawaii is my favorite) and cruising on the Rideau during the boating season. Long walks along our many local trails are a must for me every week. I love crocheting, baking, reading and snuggling with our dog Stella. I always choose music over television. Three of my favorite things in life (besides family and friends of course) are dogs, singing and making people laugh.

Behind the Mask: Meet Brian! Brian is our friendly security guard who you will find at the entrance of Campus Drive each day. He stands out in the rain, snow, ...wind or shine without a whisper of a complaint. He ensures that all patients entering the assessment centre have been through the screening checkpoint and have their time passes. Even more importantly, he controls the traffic so that the children from neighbouring schools are kept safe and their parents are given that peace of mind. Brian was a professional breakdancer at the age of 13, a competitive martial artist by the age of 30 and later became a motivational speaker and restauranteur. It’s no wonder that with his history, we often find him passing time swinging his kettlebell to get an extra in during down times. It’s hard to believe that this friendly giant was only 2.5lbs at birth, the smallest of his 9 siblings! Thank you for all that you do Brian :)
