One of the things students learned to make during the last Ayurveda in Nepal program was Kaishora guggulu, which is mentioned in the Bhaishajya Ratnavali as a treatment for vatarakta (joint inflammation, gout). This formula is safely used in conditions characterized by one, two, or all three of the dosha(s) including various complications. Kaishora guggulu is also used in the treatment of weak digestion (mandagni) and constipation, skin disorders (kushta), edema (shotha), and... urinary disorders (meha). To make Kaishora guggulu the guggulu resin has to be purified. Here are some stills from video I shot in 2017 to document the process. First the herbs are decocted while the guggulu is broken apart into smaller pieces. The guggulu is then boiled in this filtered decoction, and the insoluble resin is filtered our. The guggulu is then returned to the heat and most of the liquid is cooked off, resulting in a paste. This paste is then mixed with other herbs and ghee to make pills, which are baked in the sun for a couple days to cure. Btw, we still have a few spots open in the clinical program, which includes not only learning how to make some of the most potent medicines in Ayurveda, but also many hours of clinical practicum with Vaidya Madhu Bajra Bajracharya. And of course, time with me too! https://dogwoodbotanical.com/application-ayurveda-in-nepal/
