In celebration of #InternationalWomensDay, I’d like to share the story of how our clinic came to be. The clinic was originally opened in its current location by Dr. Szyling’s mother, Dr. Bereznicki, in May of 1980. Never one to shy away from hard work, Dr. B. opened her own clinic 5 years after graduating from the U of A’s dental school. Dr. B. was a member of the first class at the Faculty of Dentistry to which more than one female was admitted (!), being one of only 8 female students! Tomorrow is Fat Thursday in Poland and since Dr. Szyling is Polish (you can hear her speaking Polish frequently to patients in the office) we all had a delicious Polish doughnut in celebration! It’s ok to treat yourself with sweets, but don’t forget to brush and floss twice a day!

Alberta Grade 6 students get the HPV-9 vaccine in school. If you didn’t get the HPV-9 vaccine in Grade 6, and you are an Alberta resident you can still get it for free up to and including age 26 years. If you can’t get this vaccine for free, you may still benefit from the vaccine. Talk to Dr. Szyling to find out if it’s a good idea for you.
