For any artists/companies looking to adapt their work for the screen! From the event description: "THE WHOLE WORLD'S A SCREEN!... My introductory video workshop is designed specifically for stage craft artists who want to get their work out into the public sphere during our new reality. And beyond! It’s an introductory guide to camera placement, framing and movement for stage craft artists looking to capture their live performance energy on the screen. Learn how to shoot your stage work for the editor, even if you play all the roles. We’ll discuss the important differences between filming staged works during live performance, adapting stage works for the camera and creating work that only exists on the screen. These distinctions are very important and are approached very differently. We’ll examine the overall dynamic dance between the performer and the camera, the various methods for moving bodies and cameras to the best effect. We’ll also consider how to create dynamic edit points and overall video content rhythm that will most accurately reflect the feeling you want your finished piece to have. (Note: this is not an acting for the camera workshop) I will teach participants how to view their stage work differently when considering how best to shoot it for the screen. You'll learn how to think about what you are seeing in between the lens frame as well as scrutinizing the live performance during a take. You’ll learn to think cinematically, gain the techniques necessary to create the best product possible from your original performance material. Ultimately, you’ll learn what you don’t yet know, which might make you less fearful when collaborating with any filmmakers you might work with in the future. Ultimately, my goal is to empower all workshop participants to create their own theatre-based videos to get their work out into the world. To begin our November 14 workshop, we’ll view several excellent works captured beautifully by the camera, to inspire everyone to dive in with both feet, heart and imagination! We’ll consider editing techniques and post-production methods in detail in a post-production workshop in 2021, but shooting for successful editing will be considered during this initial training event. NOTE: cost of workshop is $70 for Theatre NS members. You pay the full $90 fee to Eventbrite but you will be reimbursed $20 cash with proof of membership when you arrive at the workshop."
