In the heat of the moment, it's easy to miss the little moments that define the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival. The spark of inspiration that drives our event lives on despite a temporary pause. And when we return, we'll be back stronger than ever.

I met Selena in 2017 at the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival. In my first year attending the festival, Selena was one of the first people to give me a helping hand in finding my way around and explaining how things are done in the Vancouver Dragon Boat community. In 2018 and 2019, I raced at the same festival, and Selena provided exceptional hospitality by bringing us food, snacks and beverages without my teams requesting for any. That same year, I attended the Northern... California Dragon Boat Festival in San Francisco and had the chance to have Selena drum for a team I was asked to steer for. We worked together that weekend and went on to win a silver medal! Last month, Selena offered to graciously host my team for the 2020 Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival. It was the last email I had with her. I'll always remember Selena as a kind and cheerful individual full of positivity, and I'm grateful to have crossed paths with her. Rest in peace, my friend!
