Hello Everyone! Thank you all for your patience during these last few weeks. As you may already know, Massage Therapy was given an exemption to the health restrictions put in place back in December. Part of that exemption was a condition that clients have a prescription/referral in order to receive treatment. Effective Monday January 18th restrictions province wide on Personal and Wellness Services will be lifted. With this so to will the prescription/referral requirement. ... We understand this will undoubtedly frustrate those of you who have made the effort to obtain a prescription or referral already but again remind our clients that we are in no way in control of the decisions made regarding the Public Health Measures put in place. Lots of Info! Hello everyone. Sorry this took so long. We spent this week making sure not only that we had all the right information, but that we also understood it correctly. Once we had that done, there were lots of clients to call who had their appointments cancelled, and who we felt should have first dibs on appointment availability. Now that all that has been taken care of, let us let you know what we know.... Exemption Granted: On Dec 22nd (and effective the same day) an exemption was granted to Massage Therapy allowing clinics and practitioners like ours to return to work. Reopening January 2nd: With the news, we decided to continue our break through the holidays and reopen this Saturday, January 2nd! Online Booking Now Open: Previously we had closed online booking for the month of January due to the uncertainty of our return date. Now that we are reopening, and that clients have been called back, our online booking is now once again open for the month of January Prescription/Referral Required: As part of the our exemption, clients must either have, or obtain a written prescription or referral, issued within the last 12 months, before they can resume treatment. While prescriptions are written by your physician, referrals can come from any Regulated Health Professional. This includes physiotherapists and chiropractors but also extends to naturopaths and dentists as well as a myriad of other professionals. Hello Everyone. (Please Share) We have some good news to share with our clients. While preliminary, the news today brought forth by Minister of Health Tyler Shandro introduces the return of Massage Therapy services through an exemption to the current health orders. Mr. Shandro had this to say:... //We’ve worked with Dr. Hinshaw to grant an exemption to allow massage therapy services for patients or clients with either a prescription from a physician or a referral from another regulated health professional, understanding that many massage therapists work in the same clinic as a chiropractor or a physiotherapist or get their referrals from a chiropractor or physiotherapist.// In almost all instances where the Provincial Government has made an announcement regarding Covid-19 Health Measures, the Covid-19 info for Albertans website was updated immediately to reflect and detail any new information. This was not the case today and we are still waiting on official word/language on which to make decisions on. That being said, we here at Effect Therapy, plan on taking the rest of the year off to enjoy what is left of this year and with whom we can safely and within the current guidelines. Our plan is to reopen our clinic for January 2nd, of course pending official information and instruction. Most of our clients have prescriptions for massage as part of their Extended Health Policy requirements. Our clients who see us as part of their Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) rehabilitation process should also not need additional prescriptions or referrals. We would advise all other clients to seek the referrals they need as soon as possible. Again, based on the words of our Health Minister, referrals from "other regulated health professionals" (Chiropractor/Physiotherapist) should suffice. That is all for now. We will continue to look for more updates, and advise our clients when we know more. Finally, we want to make a special mention of thanks to all of you who took the time to sign the petition that circulated on social media over the last couple of weeks. *Repost to Fix Incorrect Graphic With respect to the new restrictions imposed today we unfortunately will be closing our clinic effective Sunday Dec 13th. We will continue providing our services to our clients who have appointments up to and including Saturday Dec 12th. We regret that Massage Therapy is not considered part of the Allied Health Services who fortunately for our friends in those professions, and our clients who seek their services, will be allowed to remain open.... Due to uncertainty surrounding the time in which we will be allowed to return, we are ceasing all client bookings for the months of January as well. This is our plan: -All appointments between Dec 13th and January 12th are effectively canceled -Appointments already booked from Jan 13th and on will remain scheduled subject of course to any new information we have at that time. -We will continue taking online bookings for February -If allowed to reopen in January, we will use any open space available to accommodate clients who were canceled on during this shut down before taking new bookings. Please understand that we are taking a high volume of emails, calls, and Facebook messages. Please do not let it reflect poorly on us or our staff if we are delayed in our responses. We hope that the information provided above can help you answer any questions you may have. Again we are here thanking everyone for their support. On August 24th the Lethbridge City Council approved a mandatory face covering bylaw to include all indoor public spaces. In addition to many exemptions the City of Lethbridge bylaw does not apply to: Schools and other educational facilities, Hospitals and health care facilities and Child care facilities... We here at Effect Therapy will continue to treat our clients as safely as possible and will continue to wear our masks as we have been. While we strongly recommend everyone wear a face covering, we will continue to allow our clients the use of their own discretion when visiting our clinic. This is an increasingly stressful time for many of us and for some more than others. We hope that our message, and our commitment to our client's and our community's safety has been clear throughout this pandemic. We want the very best for Lethbridge and will keep working hard to do our part. The City of Lethbridge has committed to a course of education over penalty and we look forward to seeing how this plays out. Effect Therapy is committed to observing the bylaw as it is written.
