Lots of activity here this morning! We finally got some dry weather so we're starting to put the concrete down for our new fabrication shop expansion.
Lots going on these days at Excel! We just had this Niigata horizontal machining centre installed which will add an enormous amount of capacity to our CNC machine shop.
It was quite a job to get our Niigata horizontal machining centre into the shop. Thanks to Capital Crane in Fredericton for doing the heavy lifting.
Custom four piece mold for soil research. Photos before and after assembly.
These hubs were machine on both our CNC turning centre as well as in our 5-axis milling machine. They have a 1 1/4" internal acme thread to mate to the acme studs posted earlier. Half were made left-hand and half were right-hand threads.
Some 1 1/4" full profile acme studs we machine recently. Both left and right hand threads on each length.
Some rectangle pontoons for our floating dock system were in the works last week. John is fusing the end caps while James burns in the top skin with pulse mig.
Best of luck to Justin Cole @j.cole.38 and Ryan Messer @RyanMotorsports in this weekend's big Sportsman race at Speedway 660! Come on out to Geary Saturday evening to cheer these guys on!

Aluminum floating dock sections and ramps built from scratch. Shown here are 3 sections of our 6' x 12' configuration with a sturdy trussed ramp. Other configurations are available. These docks are built to last with all aluminum construction, pressure tested rectangular pontoons and stainless steel hardware and hinged brackets. Contact us if you are interested in a few sections for your waterfront property! More pictures to come.
Refurbishing some bronze impellers. After the trouble spots are built up with weld, the leading edges are roughed out on the milling machine followed by the draft angle for the outside diameter on the lathe. The piece is secured in a custom arbour to ensure concentricity in both operations. They'll be finished and polished by hand.
Machining the 5 degree draft angle on a marine impeller. Slow-mo of course. We are refurbishing these phosphorous bronze impellers by building them up with weld at the worn sections and then machining the critical features again. More pics to follow!
Made a "quick change" pallet to hold the 6" chuck on our 5axis #dmg_mori using the table centre bore and a stud, it will locate accurately ever time we put the chuck on the table. We use the chuck often so it's a real time saver on set ups. #instamachinist
Offset boring in the 4-jaw chuck. This is showing the boring bar cutting the minor diameter of the thread.
Finished captive block. M30 trapezoidal thread on the the lathe.
