Welcome to @curious_neuron! Parenting advice that is backed by science. This week’s topic is early literacy. I am so happy to have Chelsea as our guest collabo...rator this week. Her feed is filled with great advice that we can begin applying with our children immediatley. Today, she has prepared a simple post for us. Here is the knowledge she is sharing with the Curious Neuron Family: By implementing these strategies during shared book reading, you can have a BIG impact on your little one’s language growth! Focus on the pictures while reading to help you simplify the story and to point out vocabulary (nouns & verbs). Don’t be afraid to be silly and engaging! Vary your intonation, make funny voices, play with your little one as you read! Let your baby or toddler participate. It can be as simple has having them turn a page or lift a flap. Or, they can participate by filling in a familiar phrase from the book! Make real-life connections as you go through the book! For example, if the monkey in the book is eating a banana, you can mention, Oh, you like bananas! Or if the boy has a toy car in the book, you can say, That’s like your car! Repeat the same books over and over! Our babies and toddlers LOVE this! This helps our little ones absorb that vocabulary and truly understand the meaning of the words in the book. It also helps them become familiar enough with words and phrases in the book so they can begin to fill them in! All of these simple tips can truly help your little one build receptive and expressive language skills... all while building a true love for reading, which is invaluable for their future! Thank you Chelsea! See more

Hi! Welcome to @curious_neuron, parenting advice that is backed by science. This week we are learning about loose parts. Random objects both inside and outside ...that kids can use to create. These research study really helped me understand what loose sorts are outdoors and that simply having some of these in our child’s play environment can spark lots of creativity and curiosity. Rope, bucks and rocks for instance can become just about anything for a child. Let them lead the way. Having a few of these in their environment will get them used to it at first, you can provide ideas but then they will flourish and amaze you with the ideas they come up with. It’s great for independent play. When going on a walk you can bring a small bucket and collect rocks and twigs for instance. Then when you’ve home, you can offer a large spoon and some bowls or outdoor dishes to add to it. Join me tonight for a free webinar with Vanessa from @vanessaravalico where we will chat about loose parts! Visit curiousneuron.com (click webinars) to sign up Even in early child centres or daycares, this is what this study was looking at, whether include in these items during outdoor play helped. They said children were playing together a lot make with these irons therefore socializing more. Although in my option this wasn’t a very strong study, what is interested and something we can take hope from this is that including a few of these items will help kids have fun playing and creating. . Which of these items do you think you will start including in outdoor play? #looseparts #loosepartsplay #loosepartsexplorartion #loosepartschallenge #playbasedlearning #outdoorplay #gooutside #kidsoutdoors #kidsoutsideplaying #playoutside #playoutsideeveryday #researchstudy #scientificresearch #parentingbackedbyscience #sciencebackedparenting #curiousneuron #phdmom #firstimemom #consciousparenting #daycareprovider #daycareteacher #earlychildhoodeducator
