First time growing these squash andI am looking forward to tasting them. They are called Gete-Okosomin seedswhich, roughly translated, means cool old squash...." The story that accompanied the Gete-Okosomin squash seeds was that they were found in a clay ball at an archaeological excavation near the Wisconsin-Illinois border. It went on to suggest that the dating of the clay ball indicated that the seeds were more than 800 years old. It turns out that they were originally gifted to David Wrone, an emeritus University of Wisconsin historian, by some elder women gardeners from the Miami Nation in Indiana in 1995, and not found at a dig site. Nevertheless, saving seeds have gone on for a millennium, and this variety is being brought into popularity with many growers. So I will be part of that tradition too. #coololdsquash #seedsaving

Have you heard? Sage Valley not only has hot chocolate and coffee to keep you warm, they now offer loose leaf tea. Pair the tea with either Prairie Flavours Ranch or Sage Valley Farmer’s honey for a great combo. Also make sure you check out the available dried herbs to give your thanksgiving meal that extra flavour you love!

The Farmers' Table 14.05.2020

Hi everybody! Sorry I’ve been slow with postings for everyone lately. Butchering is in full force on our farm as well as the rest of our groups farmers. Chicken, chicken feet, gizzards and hearts are restocked. Eggs have sold out across the farmers in our group but our farm, Sage Valley, as well as possibly others will likely add more closer to the next cute off date. Also check back regularly as fresh produce tends to be added in at the last moment and/or available at pick ...ups like a regular farmers market situation. Thanks for your patience and your continued support.
